Default Ice Fishing Btwn Calgary & Canmore

Hi, new guy here.

I'm Looking for a spot to ice fish preferably between Calgary and canmore, or in the nearby vicinity of either of them.

I've fished Chain, lots of little ones. I've heard Spray can be good but I'm a little intimidated by it because I don't know any of the lake's structure or hot spots.

Strictly C&R basis, hope someone can help!

Thanks a lot!

Default Grotto mtn pond

Try Grotto mtn pond. I have not fished it for many years but I still see it come up in the stocking list. Real tiny pond on the 1A hiway between Cochrane and Canmore closer to Canmore.

Thank you for the suggestion. Do you or anyone else know if Grotto winterkills? Also, I know it gets heavy fishing pressure in the summer at least. What are the chances that it would be getting fished out by summer's end?

Default ice Fish

Years ago we only ice fished it , never been there in summer so my guess is that is does not always winterkill. Numbers were never huge but we always caught half a doz or 10 each every time we went out. One of those close to home places with nice scenery for an afternoons fishing.

Man, I used to fish Grotto Pond in the winter all the time. Used to be good maybe 3-4 years ago. Fished it earlier this winter, as well as last winter. Absolutely no fish from what I can tell!

Six of us fishing all day. Caught Nothin! Saw a sucker on the camera...

Pretty big waste of time if you're looking for a good catch.

Definitely skip Grotto in my opinion. Go to Spray or Chain Lakes.

It's a hit and a miss, some days better than others. Once the ice thickens you can access more by driving to other parts of the lake. Do a search on this website if you havne't already done it, there may be some good info with regards to locations on Ghost.

Cheers

Grotto will be a bust. Gap's Ice is always sketchy. And Ghost , well I dont think there are any fish in it Its one of the hardest lake to land fish that I have even had the displeasure of fishing. Check you PM

Maybe my map will help..
