Default Fishing the Yukon

I am just wondering how many people out there have fished in the Yukon
I am going up there for 3 weeks in June and looking for any tips and places to go
we are not going to take the boat so will likely focus on rivers for the most part
Thanks ahead of time for any input

Hey Back Country,

This thread was up a couple of weeks ago. If you do a search you should be able to find a few more!

I'm not sure where in the Yukon you are going but I spent more than a few hours fishing the Tagish River (sp?). Fishing was always great. I still remember watching my uncle skip mouse patterns along the top of the Lilly pads until they were hammered by Pike. Just thinking about it is getting me pumped. Although I'm sure there are some, I honestly I can't think of too many places that aren't at least decent fishing up there. Have a safe trip and definitely take lots of pics! It's one of the most beautiful places in Canada IMHO.

We were up in 2009 and fished Lake Laberge with Rob:

It was just awesome!

+35C that day, and we pulled a couple of nice Lakers, then hit the Yukon River where the Grayling were unbelievable.

We saw maybe 1 boat and 2 canoes all day.

Rob was fantastic, and fresh lake trout for dinner was A OK.

Back Country,
Fish up there so plentiful. We fished a few days around Whitehorse and I found pretty much any body of water will catch u fish within 2-5 casts. Rivers you'll find an abundance of Rainbow Trout and all the Artic Grayling your arms will allow you to reel in, lakes you can get into some monster Lakers and Char. My buddy landed a 40 pound LT a few days after we left. I'm still mad about that one.
They are pretty spoiled when it comes to fish and wildlife up there. Guess it makes sense though, I'm sure they don't get nearly the amount of fishing pressure our lakes and rivers get here.
Wish I had a reason to go back up there, but unfortunately our friends in the Yukon have since moved to BC.
