Cold Lake holds Lake Trout. I am not sure if you would have much success targeting them from shore fly fishing. I could be wrong but that is just my opinion. Be much better off out in a boat to target Lakers in my mind.

That is interesting! Here is what it lists in the regulations.

Cold Lake
May 15 to Mar. 31 – Lake Trout limit 0 from Sept. 15 to Nov. 15, and 1 over 65 cm from May 15 to Sept. 14 and from Nov. 16 to Mar. 31; Walleye limit 3 over 50 cm; Pike limit 1 over 63 cm; Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 10.
Apr. 1 to May 14 – CLOSED

Maybe they stock those fish in other lakes in the area just not Cold. I could be wrong but I have never heard that there were Rainbows and Browns in Cold before.

I live 20 kms from the hatchery and last time I looked, they still raised rainbows, did last year I know for a fact.Talk was that Walleye were supposed to come to that hatchery but I havent heard anything more on the subject.Little Bear Lake on the Primrose lake road gets 20000 or so most years, some go to the Medley river system, I do know that all kinds get trucked out to other parts of AB but also am sure that rainbows are NOT in Cold Lake.I have never even heard of one caught, not saying that it is impossible or has never happened but the locals that have lived here for 20-30-40 years probably know best and none that I know have heard of any caught.I wish there were rainbows in the lake but they probably wouldnt last with the high population of pike and walleye.Dont see alot of lakes with rainbows in them with pike, great feeder fish.I dont know of any place on Cold Lake that you can flyfish from shore, trust me, my 3 Sage flyrods have collected dust for years now.Little Bear is the only place I have ever flyfished in this area, all C/R due to the mud, dirt, clay, whatever taste they have, just not good to eat, it does have some lunkers in it, hard to get to now with limited access

Theres the little stocked pond just before Ardmore that you can fly fish on. See guys there all the time with the fly rods as I drive by to/from work.

the hatchery does raise rainbow and some brook trout, they stock most of the northern alberta trout ponds from there. They have raised walleye for the last four years most of which are stocked in Lac La Biche. A couple years they had 50 million walleye eggs but they are much smaller than trout eggs so the fry are more vulnerable.

Default Stocked Rainbows

You could try the Medley River. The hatchery stocks this river in 3 spots yearly.

Default Medley River

Here's a map

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sourc...=UTF8&t=h&z=11

It's a short walk to the mouth from your vehicle, real nice beach if the fishing is slow.

good luck
Dan

where exactly is the stocked pond near Ardmore? is it off Hwy 28? east or west of Ardmore? I travel Hwy 28 a lot and haven't noticed anyone fishing

OK, I think I know it, just past the the golf course on RR 441 there is what seems to be a small recreation park on RR 441, I guess it is stocked by the town council
