Default Weird etching on a rock

Anybody have an uneducated guess at how these marks were etched into this rock. It a little bigger than a softball.

To me, they look like fake rocks, and they were formed in that shape (For landscaping).

The only other explanation is aliens did it with lazers.

Metamorphic rock that has a "lens" of soft rock pressed in, which has weathered away.

You can see that there are alot of "dimples". That likely was a rock on a shore line or river bed which was worn by wave action from other smaller rocks washed back and forth.

That, or its aliens doing graffiti with their Space Blaster 3000's.

Perhaps a hammer of some sort, I'm thinking the groves are for tying it on to the handle.

If this is an actual rock, it looks like grooves for leather lashings. You could have an old hammer of some kind.

It’s a weird one, and with the dimples on it it’s nothing that I’ve ever seen.
Nature has a way of creating stuff though and I “think” it’s natural.
I’m gonna list if on the fb meteorite page if you don’t mind. It’s the dimples....

Wait .... scratch that. I zoomed in and I see that it’s sedimentary rock now.
Not a meteorite for sure.

Sandstone hammer seems too weak. Grooves seem abnormally deep for a real artifact.

Maybe if in a farmers rock pile it was just some kids in the day grinding a rock during breaks picking them hoping someone would think them an artifact.

Otherwise farmers were well known to pick these real ones up for their collection. Why leave this behind?

Send pics to an archeologist.

Starting about twenty five years ago....

I started leaving simple stone carvings in rivers and fields all over the Castle/Waterton/Oldman area.
Some in rivers, some on hills, some in fields.

The idea was to let nature finish polishing and shaping the stone.

the rock may of been formed with a some softer material where the grooves are which has since been eroded .

when I lived in Calgary I started making stone sculptures along the shore out in shallow water, saw a lot of people checking them out and wondering what the h they were. great entertainment on slow fish days. I believe there was an artist in NS who placed small stone sculptures at different beaches for people to find too. just the theories of how they came to be were quite entertaining
