Default More options available now

Rifle has arrived at Cooper. Spoke with them yesterday. They said they would swap out my bolt face and magazine, which brings more calibre's (non magnum) into play now, like the following. (only long or magnum cartridges are options, no short actions)

30-06 with heavy bullets
300 H&H
338-08 A-Square
35 Whelan

This will be a short to mid range gun more for elk and moose then deer with a larger "frontal area" then my 280ai. I guess is you could call my bush gun with some thump.

Then 2 that I'm really leaning towards are the 338-06 and 35 Whelen with a 22' barrel. Thoughts on these two? I do re-load.

Question for reloader- I believe both the 338-06 and 35 Whelen are based off of the 30-06 case. Is one or the other easier to re-size or work better with the 30-06 case?

For a 338 off an ‘06 sized case do yourself a favour and at least look into the 338 Sherman. Guys are getting 2900 plus with a 250 grain Berger. That’s 338 win mag territory or better and easier on the shoulder.

^^^^ I agree with this. As long as you can convince Cooper to use Rich's reamer.

Unfortunately that isn’t an option at Cooper

Default Cartridge picked

Decided on a 338-06 A-Square with a 22" fluted stainless barrel for my Jackson Hunter.

Should be a good rifle to compliment my 280ai.

Thanks for all the input.

Good choice. To compliment my 280AI, I went "smaller" capacity/efficient 338 as well, didnt want a big lapua, edge, or rum.
