I’m going to go out on a limb & propose that the visiting aliens, while technologically advanced in terms of transport & navigation, are not a combative species at all. I think they managed to get the intergalactic space travel down to a level affordable to them because they didn’t war amongst themselves, ever. As such, they’re easy pickin’s & can’t even win against a grumpy toddler, let alone a grown man.

.22LR will suffice, or even just a mallet, they’re not even the least bit afraid when approached due to never having been prey in their entire history. They come from a planet consisting entirely of symbiotes.

Their meat is tender when cooked slowly & really pairs nicely with a Bavarian Pilsner.

Of course, there may be a variety of species visiting, it might be akin to an intergalactic casino bus tour where participants from all over have purchased tickets. What works for one type, is going to be entirely different with the other critters that you’re about to encounter.

Some of the amoeba ones are a very simple processing step away from being a flavorless gelatin that you can use just as you would with earth gelatin.
