Good to know. I'll definitely do two 6volts. The amp hours are roughly like three 12 volts hooked up

Seems like a no brainer but I might be missing something?

Two 6 volts in series = 12 volts at 452 amp hours
Two 12 volts in parallel = 12 volts at 290 amp hours

so the 6 volt combo gets me 162 amp hours more run time right?
Your math is flawed... you will not have 452 amp hours at 12v you will have 452ah @ 6v... so 226ah at 6v...

I have 6x 6v batteries in my toy hauler and a large inverter. I have plenty of solar on the roof and a generator to run the ac.

My trailer has never seen a campground and we go for 2 weeks plus at times, having that much reserve and the solar to keep them up I have never had to worry about working my batteries too hard.

Bringing your batteries below 50% will kill them much quicker... if you treat them right 7-10 years is easily achieved.

Exactly. And because you don't want to go below 50%, those 226 Ah's is now 113 usable Ah's. But still, two 6's is the way to go, by far.

Thanks in advance.

I bought mine 4 years ago and paid $190 ea. I was just in Battery World last week and I think they've gone up to $205 or $210 ea.

I do a lot of dry camping and I switched to two 6 volt batteries and they hold a charge a lot longer that two 12 volt ones. Just got back from the west country and I ran the generator (Honda) for about an hour early evening and set the thermostat for 18 degrees and by morning on both days I still had 75% charge.

About 3 years ago I threw up a post letting guys know that Costco started selling 6v batteries. Back then they were $110 a piece compared to $190 for the T105's

Obviously prices have gone up as reflected by the posts below, but is the $225 Trojan "that" much better than the costco ones for $134? Not a chance IMO, especially given Costco's warranty is second to none. The T105's are rated at 225 amp hour vs 220 for the Kirkland brand. Not that much of a difference to justify almost double the price. I also believe their weights are almost identical at 62 or 63lbs a piece.

I know these Kirkland batteries can be had for less than $100 at Costco's in the US, but I have seen them clearing out their 6v later in the season here locally in Calgary for $79 IIRC. Just have to keep your eyes open for them....

I've done a bit of looking around and I'll post later tonight as to what I've found where and what prices I've gotten just for everyone to know.

Here's what I found:
Canadian Tire was $200 +$20 core for a motomaster 6v 226ah

Pevey mart was $160 +$20 core for climate guard 6v 226ah

Costco was $134 + $10 core for Kirkland (interstate) 6v 220ah

Battery doctor was around $240 + $20 core for Trojan 6v 220ah

I went with the Costco ones because of the price and warranty you can't beat them. If they die in a year then it's warranty or only $280 to get brand spanking new ones.

Nate,
do yourself a favor and don't buy the Marine/Rv batteries;
If given a choice, buy the deep cycle RV batteries as they are better suited for deep cycle application, and will last longer
Also a good practice is to do a equalization charge on any wet cell RV battery at least once a year. Goggle it if your unfamiliar with this.

Thats a high cranking starting battery. Exactly what you DON'T want for a house battery for an RV. The Ah's in that battery is only 44.

*edit* ...and I'm pretty sure you're just a spammer. Do you work for Amazon? 4 posts and everyone has an Amazon link?

Default 6 volts vs 12

Two 6volt batteries is great until a cell goes bad in one of them, and then you’re left with one 6volt battery aka dead in the water. At least if you run 2x 12volt batteries you’re fine if you lose a battery

Wow. What an old thread resurrection. Full disclosure The Battery Doctors was created and Owned by my father who has transitioned to retirement in the last year or so. He is still engaged with the new ownership and they are still offering the same quality products for fair price. You won’t go wrong with solid advice and products here.

DAKOTA LITHIUM 170 AH 12V LIFEPO4 DEEP CYCLE BATTERY

https://dakotalithium.com/product/da...h-12v-battery/

The best battery only $1700 US each

I think I'll go going with the 6V I bought from Battery doctor until the lithium's price come down.

Thanks to you AD I got my T105's through your dad a couple of years back. Great guy. Great store. Great service. Wouldn't go anywhere else or buy any other battery. Worth the drive.

Default Trojan T105's

I am another who will vouch for the Trojan batteries. They are a bit more of an initial investment, but it isn't unheard of to get 10+ years out of them if cared for properly.
As for the 6V vs 12V, RV's should come sold with (2)6V batteries in them from the beginning. With the thicker plates, you get so much more amp-hours with equivalent footprint to that of a 12V.
