I just picked up a new camper and it needs 2 new batteries (im hearing lots of good things about dual 6 volts......)

I'd assume the connection for two six volt batteries would be in series?

I get all mine from Walmart. Best warranty out there and I've tested it with great satisfaction.

It'd be worth checking around but I've found them to be competitive.

Canadian Energy has shop in North end of town as well. I buy all my work batteries there, not sure what there retail prices are like but wholesale comparable or cheaper than batter doctors. May be worth giving them a call to check.

X2 on the battery doctors. Picked up a new battery for the trailer from them in the fall. Prices seemed to be comparable and they could actually answer the questions I had.

Two 6's are always better than one 12 and the Trojan T105's are the best of the best when it comes to 6 volt batteries. They WILL out perform any other brand but they are also $200 each. Trick is to never let them go below a 50% charge. They will last you years and years when cared for properly. Take them inside for the winter and keep them fully charged. Don't worry about putting them on concrete, that myth no longer applies to today's batteries.

Two 6v's are apparently better than three 12v's from what I've read...

Battery doctors will have the trogans
The service at the big retailers is so variable, and often the staff don't know anything.
I once had a new battery that wouldn't hold charge long at all, I took it back to the big box store, but it tests fine on volt meter so they insist it's just fine. I now have a new battery that they won't warranty but also won't do its job.
The staff don't know how to load test a battery.
At one of the battery shops I expect with their knowledge they get the cause of issues and offer a solution.

All things being equal the two 6 volt batteries will have much more storage capacity.

Better than ONE 12 volt. Not three. Three 12 volts would give much more Ah's than two 6's.

well I currently have 2 X 12-volts ones cracked in half and ones acidy as all hell and hasn't been charged in a couple years by the looks of it. so id like to replace both with something.... not sure to do 2 new 12-volts or 2 new 6-volts or 4 new 6 volts? don't want to spend over $450

should I replace with 2 of these? http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/gr...l#.VVj1A3JOXGg

or do 2 of these so about the same price? http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/gr...l#.VVj1iXJOXGg

Seems like a no brainer but I might be missing something?

Two 6 volts in series = 12 volts at 452 amp hours
Two 12 volts in parallel = 12 volts at 290 amp hours

so the 6 volt combo gets me 162 amp hours more run time right?

You definately don't need four 6 volts. You'll know why when you heft them and also why they last longer because of the plates. Furnace on cold nights would shut down with 12 volts and two sixes won't. All trailers should be sold with two sixes vice the 12's but 12's save the builders money. Anyone purchasing from a dealer should insist on two sixes. Most dealers will accomodate you for a sale.
