White tail deer question!!! ?

So I am hunting in the mountains/ foothills and I was wondering for general white tail habit, do they bed down on top of the ridges in the day or in the valley? And around how big is a deers area? And do they ussually use the exact same trail every day or do they change trails every day or few days?

in my experiences i usually see the WT's in the valleys, they don't seem to be as adventurous as the Mulies in the high country.... but thats just what i have seen.

A Whitetail Buck will use the same trail every morning and evening for days and weeks on end until your sitting there in the perfect spot with perfect wind waiting for him. That is always the first day of his new routine.

Bedding, water, food sources and breeding are the key drivers of movement.

This time of year breeding is not yet a big factor. If undisturbed whitetail will stay in an area that provides cover water and food. This may be a small as a woodlot next to a field or as large as many square miles. They will use the same trials but have a tendency to be a bit more random as they approach feeding locations. Experienced deer will try to enter a feeding area from a downwind side if they can in order to " check things out " before they step in the open. Also, weather plays a big role as well where windy days keeps them in the thick stuff.

I hunt primarily an 80 acre field near my house. Every night they come out like clockwork from 1hr before sunset to about 1/2 hr after. last year I observed this every single time. Where they entered the field was the big unknown. I try to take everything I can into consideration when setting up but 9 out of 10 times they do not come out in range and more often come out on the opposite side of the field.

The key is to find a population of deer and be persistent getting out as much as you can and if you spook them or get busted stay out of there for a couple of days. This keeps them from finding new areas. Remember you don't need to be right 10 out of 10 times you only need to be right once

PS. If you have bow season followed by a rifle of BP season a change of weapon can do wonders. Last year I had a buck always come out but always 100 to 150 yards away from my set up. One evening it was muzzle loader season and he did the same thing to me. However this time I wasn't holding a bow. This year the score is deer 3 me 0 so far any way

sweet guys! thanks for the information! im sure it will come in handy this year =), and yes i am going out with a bow but im determined to get a deer with my bow this year so ill have to keep trying and be persistent
