Default Elk with Broken Main beam!

Got some good elk pics on camera, one bull has snapped his main beam. Probably from some aggressive rubbing!

Nice pictures!

I'm sure a broken beam won't affect the flavor.....

If you want to eat it I wouldn't shoot it if it was a medium-large, either huge for the trophy aspect or small to eat. My first two bulls were big and I couldn't figure out why everyone liked elk meat so much. Then a friend of mine shot a year and a half old cow and it all made sense. all this time I was passing on the cows to shoot a bull but from now on if I see a nice young cow I'm gonna let the air out of her if I get the chance.

Never found that. as a mater of fact a few years ago a friend shot a big 6X7 the same morning i shot my calf. The bull was a little tougher but as far as taste there was no significant difference. The quality of the cutting plays a huge part of the taste of the meat. That's why we do all our own butchering.
