A little too conspiracy theorist and paranoid "gov't-is-out-to-get-our-guns" for me.

Trust me, I take everything with a grain with salt, including that reply.

I don't care what the government "wants" me to do; I think the spray is the appropriate choice for me.

You may be right, but I truly believe that authority's mindset is the less firearms out there the better.

Fair comment. And undoubtedly lots of grains of truth as it relates to certain political parties approach in policy to gun control in this country.

I first met Andy Russell about 1965 when he took our Scout troop on an overnight hike in the SW corner of the Province. I always admired his attitude about bears.

When the government bans bear spray, I am going to holster high velocity aerosol whipped cream. It's a drag when it hits you directly in the eyes, blinds you momentarily!

Holstered whip cream?

Now that's just trolling for cougars!

When I'm out before the bears are asleep, I'm usually packing my bow or my .22. So it's typically the spray and bangers for me.

I pack bear spray while I'm fishing. We typically have a camp gun with us in the back country. Never had to use either, but we have had critters come strolling through camp. Woke up a few times to bears walking through camp. We are bear smart in the bush, but they are naturally curious. If something looks interesting/different, they will check it out.
