Don't know for sure, but I've heard people say that golf courses are good after a nice rain.

I would try city parks in older, well established neighbourhoods after an evening rain. It was already mentioned using a flashlight in the evening. As if the sight of somebody walking around a park at night isn't strange enough, I would say try around 1-1.5 hrs. after sunset. The ground is still warm from the daylight sun. You can go scouting in the daytime by walking around in a park and look for areas in the ground that are fairly lumpy. The lumps are caused from the worms coming up to the surface in the evenings. If you can find the lumpy areas in the daytime, it will cut down your search time in the evening.

it helps if you put some red clear plastic over the flashlight, you can shine it on them and they won't go down their hole as fast. We used to walk the golf courses at night doing that...

I have noticed that they are sensitive to the light. Always wondered if a different color of light would make a difference.

As I read this, I had a thought. Picking worms in a not too desirable area at midnight and the police stop and say "Hey, come over here."

Instead of going over, I imagined somebody running away with a bunch of worms in one hand and a flashlight in the other.

This interlude was brought to you by a random thought and now back to the original thread topic.

So there was a boy in the back yard with his grandfather. The bow sees a worm that is out of it's hole and can't get back in. The boy looks at his grandfather and says I bet you five dollars I can get that worm back in it's hole. The grandfather says ok but you will never get that limp wiggly worm back in that hole.just then the boy takes off into the house a couple minutes pass and the boy comes back with some hair spray in his hands.he grabs that worm and sets off spraying that worm till it's is straight and hard then sticks the worm back in it's hole. Amazed the grandfather gives the boy his five dollars grabs the hair spray and runs to the house. Five minutes later the grand father comes back out and Hands the boy another five dollars. The boy says grandfather you already gave me five dollars. The grandfather says that five dollars is from your grandmother.

Just thought I would share
