Wondering which camera people would suggest in that price range.

It really depends what your needs are. Are you wanting small and mobile? Do you often fish in water over 50ft deep?

Thinking of upgrading my camera setup so the kids can watch it together. Is the screen good enough to fish without a shelter in bright sunlight?

Yes, I used it in direct sunlight on sunday. I increase the brightness of the screen.

I'd stay away frim aqua vu cameras if i was you. I have owned a couple of the high end aqua vu cameras and they can't even touch the lower end 385c Marcum I have now. Better quality, picture and brightness IMO.

I have this one and its works great ..I watch them come in and take the wire worm ..then are fighting but not horizontal so I pulled it back to hole and then up the hole ..5# 15oz ....with out the camera I would not have known that it was not a runner .. saw it coming then it took the hook ..Priceless tool ..with the camera being so small they do not spook .. also I have got the tri-pod remote control to have the camera to look around any time I want ..its color too .. would I recommend ..yes I would

I fish more than most people and use this a tool ....money ...well invested

Dont think so unless something has changed. but you can modify it. Check on you tube. Might also find on AO with a search.

Pretty sure "wireless" doesn't work through water after a few feet.

They have a better picture without a doubt when they work! If you only knew how many Marcum's I had returned to vendor or refunded money you would at least keep your fingers crossed every time out. They are nice units but QC has been an issue on their product. I will take a lesser quality picture to be sure it works.

I got the marcum in black and white and it's awesome. Never had a problem other than not being able to use it because my kid wants to watch fish TV.

I'll add my endorsement for Aqua Vu 715C. Just got it two weeks ago and it has worked exceptionally well. Fun to watch perch take hooks and see schools of whitefish wandering by.

I'm sceptical on how much branding is factored into the prices of these cameras I see other underwater cameras on Amazon for ally cheaper with good reviews from customers flat lcd type displays ..... Anyone have experience with any of these? Seems like the name brand cams are overpriced, I mean cameras are a dime a dozen these days... Some of these fishing cameras look like technology straight out of the 90,s (aqua view lol wtf is this cord business, oh yeah great idea making the camera a fish shape that will fool the fish) if I ever get a camera I think it would be more for scoping out underwater structure than actually watching the fish, that's what dry flies are for old ass tech.. Lol

From what I understand there was 1 or maybe 2 years with issues related to cameras leaking. It has all been solved now.
Not only is the camera better quality on the Marcum 485 vs 715 but the form and function of the unit is much nicer too imo. The separate coil for the wire instead of having to hold the whole unit to coil up wire. Being one complete unit instead of having to have a separate carry bag. No screws to remove to swap out batteries. The 715 is an ok unit but I would take the 485 any day of the week over it.

I've seen the Aqua View right next to the cheapest Marcum while in the same ice fishing tent. There is ABSOLUTELY no comparison to low light picture quality, battery life, clarity and normal operating conditions.
The Marcum is a far better camera - and the battery lasted almost twice as long.

Don't knock it till you try it. It's pretty cool being able to pick your fish out of a school of perch. Or watching how they react to your technique and lure. Or saving a nice lure tied onto 4lb mono from a hungry pike. Watching the fish is addictive.

Hopefully the 1 or 2 years is over. It was still going last year when I had to deal with them so still need some time IMO to prove themselves before I would by one. Picture quality as I mentioned is way better but if it doesn't work it all don't matter.

I heard of the issue from the guys I am working with at the fishin hole. They said it was really bad and that they always had a pile of warranty/returns. We haven't had 1 while I have been there and it was obviously a wide scale manufacturing defect that has been fixed. Unless you end up with an old stock unit from somewhere you should be good now.

Once you got a camera you find more and more uses for it. I bring it out in the summer as well now to pin point structure. Works sweet when you put the trolling fin on then just go slow till you see something interesting.
