I was out as well. Got lost in the fog and had same luck as you. The walleye seem to slow down in that lake every year at this time.

Default Too big to keep

Why would anyone keep a 26 inch Walleye????? In my experience they do not taste very good. Many years ago I kep a 23 inch walleye and was quite excited by my catch until we sat down for dinner - it was not good and I felt guilty. AND those are the brood stock fish. Let them swim and make babies.

There are walleye much bigger than 26 inches in Utikuma, and they are still swimming

Indeed, so have I. There are days at Utikuma when a 25-26 inch walleye is barely over average. In addition, I have no problems keeping fish from a lake that consistently winterkills every 5-10 years. We caught walleye in at least 3 different ages classes, they are doing fine.

Default Winterkill around the corner

Sooner or later there will be a hard winterkill. This is the history of the lake. It will repopulate from Utikimasis which is quite deep and connected by a river.

Don't feel bad about using the fish from Utik. In time, they will be wiped out again, and we will start over.

Utikuma dose winterkill a fair bit, but it's one of the few lakes that recover fairly quickly often in just a couple years, removing fish dosent have much of an impact on her,
Love that lake
