Default Where can you buy Spey line?

Im looking to buy some Spey line for my 6wt.
Triangle Tapper would be the best.
If you have any other Spey line suggestions please let me know.
Thanks

Check any of the fly shops in Calgary. If they don't have it, they can probably get it for you.

I have quite a few suggestions, but are you getting a spey line for a 6w one-handed rod? If it's for a one hander (which I assume you meant one-handed because you said 6w instead of a grain weight -- spey fisher's usually talk by using grain weights) then I would recommend a very light grain weight in the 300's grain. Or even just buying shooting heads, I'll inset both in links. If your getting it for a 2 handed rod, I would go with a 425-500 grain. Rio makes a great assortment of spey lines. But here arises another problem, would you prefer Scandinavian casting or Skagit. If you're newer to spey casting I would reccomend going with Skagit, because they are easier to throw (and take less energy to throw bigger flies). Scandi takes way more practice and is much more finesse.

1 Handed lines
Shooting heads
1 handed spey line reccomendation (look at 300-375gs)

2 Handed lines
Skagit heads (425-500gs)
Scandi Heads (same grains)

Last thing I would reccomend is using a switch head, which is designed for one handed switch rods that MIGHT work for a onehanded rod.

I hope this helps. All of these products can be bought at Cabelas or wholesale sports. Not TFH.

Edit: You will need shooting line for everyone of these lines.

So yeah, then go with either the switch line (my first choice if I were you), or the Skagit head 300 grains. With the switch line, you can also onehand cast. That's why they invented the switch rods/line.

Just out of curiosity why do you want a spey line for your one hander?

For the reddeer river when i swing for walleyes. And I salmon fish the clear water river each year at my buddy's campground so it would be nice to fly fish the kokanee and sockeye instead of using the hardware. But besides all that the casts look pretty sick.

Alright ill pick up the Skagit 300 grain because ill be doing the overhand cast most times.

The snap-T cast is my favorite for sure. The little mouse-track after the line is the best.
It's gonna be hard to do those cast with a one-hander though. An extension would be a good investment possible? Just a suggestion

Fish Tails, the Fishing Hole and SouthBow in Calgary are a good bet for Spey lines, I've bought a few from them for my rods. The rest I've ordered direct form Rio and Airflo which are my favorite brands.

300 grains is a lot for a 6wt onehanded rod, don't think you'll find an actual spey line/head for that rod.

Look for royal wulf ambush lines, that should cure your problem, it is made for what you're looking for.

Dude , u don't need a Spey line to do single hand Spey on single hand rod. Over loading rod is not a wise idea.

A spey line won't cause you to start spey casting, and is a waste of money for a 9' rod. A 9' is going to limit the D loop you can generate and therefore limit you casts

What you need to do is to learn how to single hand spey cast and you can do that with most lines, but something like Rio Indicator taper is great for the application and going to make the learning curve a lot easier

Put a 8-9 wf on your reel or borrow one from someone, canadian tire has those cheap Profile lines for 25$, use about a 3-5 foot leader, that would be your cheapest best bet for a spey feel on a 6wt 9' imo.

Have you thought about ordering it? Pretty easy to do. Even if you don't have a credit card, you can link your paypal to your bank account. Ordering things off eBay is a snap. The wait is a bit long with the bank account to transfer money. But it also stops you from asking mom and dad to put in their credit cards in and you paying them back, which they always seem reluctant to do. I've ordered some tying materials and go pro stuff with my paypal, and no issues so far.

But if you want to avoid that you're best bet is to call fish tales, they'll have the best idea on What to do.

You still got at least another month till serious open water.

Do not put a skagit line on a single hand. The other folks are right, you can single hand spey with a WF line.
