Default ATV winch

Is 2000lb big enough for a 4x4 quad? I've never used anything smaller than 2500lb on any of my machines, I need a winch for my quad but I'm not sure if I can get away with 2000lb or not.

Probably not. 2000lb would be good for loading dead stuff into a trailer or deck, or hoisting an animal in the garage.
Best to have more than what you need. I wont go smaller than 3500 for a quad.

My old Kodiak had a 2000lb winch and did well. But that machine was only an itty bitty 400... pic for sentimental reasons. Lol

It that photshopped? It trees look greener than the last time I was there...lol.

Kurt, depends on the size of your machine and if you like to play in the muskeg. Normal use on a light machine and its plenty. Heavy machine in the 'skeg and 3500lbs isn't always enough.

It's a renegade 800x and there's a lot of muskeg where I ride. I figured 2000 would be a little small but I saw a new 2000lb winch for $200 and was trying to talk myself into buying it.

After having a machine flip on us and having to drag it out of a hole on its side with the winch with the machine not running I would not screw around and get the best winch possible. Who knows it might be someones leg caught under the machine and one guy can't lift those machines.

3500# Warn winch on my bigger machine and IF I was winching on a regular basis, I'd have a second battery available/wired in as well.

If you're going to spend, get the bigger winch at the time of the initial cost - it will pay off in a single line pull (won't work as hard as the smaller winch)

Minimum 3500#, 4000# would be the best.

I agree a minimum of 3500 however if a snatch block is used correctly 2000 maybe enough depending on the size of quad. My last quad was 960lbs without the tool box on the back.

This guy,,,,, i run a 3500 on the front as well but my rear winch is a 2500. I use the rear winch to save myself and the front winch to save others. I m using a Can am xmr 1000 with 32’s and a 4 inch lift and the 2500 has no problem pulling me out the way i went in.

I've got a 3500lb super winch sitting on a shelf in my garage in Edmonton that saw 1 year of use on a 2WD sport quad until I smartened up and got a 4x4.

PM me if interested and if you can wait until the end of the month I am sure we could make a deal.

the super winches ive used have a live power supply into the remote plug in connection and always corrode the contacts and quit working, by warn, buy once. I have an RT40 warn winch just sitting in the garage that i put some brushes in that you can just have. It’s winch only though, works good too, needs a hook and clamps, it was on a boat lift

It's a can am renegade 800x, from what I hear I can't go to big because the machine doesn't pump enough juice to run the bigger winches.

I'm looking into maybe a Ramsey, they say they're better than the Warn.

Ouch...just when I thought we could be friends...

I’ve only ever had one winch die when I needed it most. Yup, a Ramsey....

I’ve had a lot of Warns over the years and they are hard to beat. Don’t just look at size, look at how much juice they draw when picking one too. Some of those cheap Chinese winches pull enough and might last for the occasional use but they will drain your battery dry in no time. Not the best pick if your charging system isn’t up to snuff.

Oh, and Ramsey are good. I just got a bad one. I guess we could still be friends...

I bet I've burnt out about 5 or 6 winches so far, all of them have been Warn 2500 because that's all I've ever owned. I have two new 4500lb winches still in the box but they're the Canadian Tire winches I bought for the back of my side by side to load moose into the box, I don't think I'd trust them to get me out a bind. I bought 2 because they were on sale

I could buy another Warn, I just heard good things about the Ramsey's. I suppose a guy could burn any of them out, maybe it's that I've been using the 2500's and not the 3500's all along?

I wouldn’t go smaller then a 3000lb. As someone said snatch block will double it. Pay attn to how much room you actually have to go bigger once mounted. My yammy and Honda don’t think i could go bigger lol. I have a spare winch like you do that fits on a receiver hitch that is bigger if needed on quad that i usually use on truck to get meat into the back and save the back lol

I just found a Warn winch on sale. Apparently there is a winch made by Warn and branded by Cabelas. It's a Cabelas Warn TTX 3200 and it's on sale for $199.99. They have Warn on all the parts and a Cabelas sticker on them, they even have the Warn manuals.

I'll guess I'll have to try the Ramsey next time.

Go to an aftermarket shop, if in Edmonton I'd recommend Rapid Revolutions, and ask about putting a better stator in. It's very true Rene's have a problem winching, it's all about that stator.

I was going to look into a new stator after I try out this winch. I had to replace the stator in my grizzly 700 and I had to tear off half my engine to get at it.

Here is the winch from Cabelas

I can’t find the winch you are looking to buy Kurt on the Cabelas web site.

It's a smokin deal I figure, it's 100% a Warn 3200lb winch for $200!!!

Well, it’s not a Warn, but Cambodian Tire has a knock-off 3,500lb winch on 50% off for $125.

I had a look at one today and it actually doesn’t look bad. While I’d rather buy the Warn for $75 more, there doesn’t appear to be any more available.

I think that’s the winch I replaced my old Warn with, uses the same controls and switch pack...so it was a really quick swap because I just needed the winch replaced and now I have spare hardware to go with it....and it comes with cable too!

Default Winch Arrived

The winch was delivered in the mail today, I must say I'm pretty impressed. If anyone is looking for a winch for your quad I'd say jump on this deal, I don't think you can beat it for $200!

They come in 3 different sizes, 2200, 3200, and 4200.

It's definitely made by Warn, it's got the Warn manuals and branded by Warn.

A neat feature I noticed is the winch controller comes with a remote plug in adaptor, something I never got with any others Warn ATV winch I've bought.

Warn is like everything else, Made In China, motor's are junk, & if you have pulled one apart it has plastic gears. But for $200 bucks I'd buy a couple of them.
