Default Sheep Opener!!!

I know a lot of folks avoid the opener. We hunt a pretty quiet area so we're heading in!
Who else is pumped?!!!

I'm getting stoked too but I'm just a glorified pack mule, heading into northern BC with a buddy (he's the resident) as he's chasing Stone sheep....10 days of backpacking at the end of the month!

Not sure on exact dates yet but we are doing more of a "closer" rather than an "opener" lol........likely end of October though

Schedule is up in the air due to work but looking more and more like we will be heading out for the opener. Absolutely despise hunting the opener and haven't done so in a lot of years but might be the only chance to get out. Will be interesting to see what kind of pressure the area we hunt gets during the opening week vs the absolute solitude we get hunting early to mid September.

Good luck to all heading out and may your trip be safe and fruitful.

That’s the plan here too. Get in and cut some firewood. Set up our solid base camp, then glass for ole rocky. Hope to put one to bed the night before the opener. Bivy it out and drop a ram or two. There’s 2 of us with tags this year. Ole Nuge scored last year so he’ll play the role of Sherpa.

With the borders closed to the US and 90% of the sheep outfits doing nothing or very very little for hunts this fall there’s likely going to be an increase of 200-300 of the best sheep guides in Canada all hunting for themselves this fall.
I’m predicting a slaughter !

would be interesting to see the difference, i'm guessing with paying customers on the line they wouldn't be messing around either so maybe not as bad as that initially sounds, sure they won't be slowed down or let down by some poor shooting but they what would that translate to the overall percent increase?

Yep, and if they're not hunting for themselves, then they'll be guiding a ton of "one-and-done" residents to another big batch of squeakers and dinks. Many more than in previous years, and that was already out of control.
'Slaughter 2020' is probably an accurate description, and possibly another nail in the coffin for OTC tags and the general season.

I bet the harvest over last year will darn near double !
I’ve talked to a few that are gearing up for 15-20 days if need be. After guiding in the NWT, Yukon and B.C. for the last 10-20 years every season they are all over finally getting one for themselves.

Heck, my guides don’t even guide sheep but they’re all going to be pounding the mountains this year because they finally have time. I’ve got a trip planned for the opener, then again mid October if we don’t connect. I pulled a moose tag, I’m trying to find the right Mule Deer allocation for myself, then we’re headed south for antelope.

Plenty of Outfitters are doing the same, normally we have no time so we’ll make the best of it 👍

so with that news, everyone just "stay safe" and stay home. I will take one for the team and volunteer to ensure the sheep range stays safe. It will be good for everyone

The squeakers will be in even more trouble than normal this year.
Hills will be full of metrosexual sheep hunters judging by how busy it's been this summer already.

I guess the good news here is that there might be a few less G/O's out there this year, running around the week of the 20th, sky lining and "taking pictures" (ie. pushing rams down into the timber), in hopes that they'll stay there for a week or two...

I’m guessing the Alberta sheep outfitters will still be tending to their flocks regardless!

When you rely on sheep to feed your kids, I can’t see every Tom Dick and Harry outfitter/ guide out there blasting away. Maybe I’m wrong
