Default Strathcona County Whitetails?

Hey guys,

Just checking in to see if any whitetails have hit the ground considering the season has been open for three days?

Live out here and so far I must say the trail cameras have not been encouraging. Usually more deer by this time and specifically more bucks. Its still early and I am still very hopeful. Had 26 bucks on my cameras the fall of 2010 and have never hot those numbers since. last year I had 11 different bucks out here, so getting better. Lots of moose right now. Will keep you all posted, I am curious to here what others have to say about the wt population in this area.

I set up my cams tonight and saw 5 whites in the field walking out and one cow moose.

Do I need a discharge permit to hunt in strathcona if I chose to use muzzie or shotgun?

Also what do you guys prefer muzzle or shotgun?

No permit, just landowner permission. Good luck! My weapon of choice is a muzzleloader but a scoped shotgun works well too.

Default strathcona whitetail

Ive been out everyday since the opener. Plenty of moose abound in the areas i have access to.I have only encountered 7 whitetails thus far. Only one buck seen, a small 4 x 4. It's really early yet. I got a picture of one real nice one on my trail cam at 3:30am last month. This is my 6th season out here and numbers appear to be down.

I have to agree with Davef. Iv'e been hunting 248 regularly since Sept. 1. Also have trail cams set up in strath. and leduc counties, plus I keep a very good eye out coming and going. Deer #'s seem to be down from the last 3 seasons. Still a lot out there with some nice heavy 5x5's. I have noticed a LOT more coyotes this year.

Been almost a week since the opener, I hear gun shots every night, definitely some deer hitting the dirt. Hopefully guys are trying to take it easy on the does. I have sat every night and seen deer every night but nothing photo worthy yet. Hopefully a giant magically appears. Lol Good luck out there guys.

I was out in the county saw 4 small 4x4's and some does but nothing to write home about... still waiting for the one. I have seen a ton of moose as well but man have I been having a hard time to get close enough with the bow. Struggling a lot more than in previous years.

I"m thinking the deer numbers are down. Just not seeing what I used to in years past (mostly high speed driving scouting). Moose are doing well.

Since no one has posted a pic of SC white tail that should answer your question on deer numbers in the county.

Default lotsa fun

I hope you get him bigbore. That looks like a lot of fun. There are still a few real decent bucks to be had in the county. My neighbor showed me a couple of pics from his trail cams and their some real beauties. No deer yet, but ill post a cow moose pic. Maybe tonight ill see mr right. I went out in the last couple of weeks trying to earn permission in other areas. This is one tough county (wmu 248) to get permission in. Have to stick with the 6 quarters i have permission on. Good luck.

I walked in on a 40 inch plus moose the other day....he was sleeping

I have a full freezer and want to nurture the area a bit so he got a free pass.

It's always fun when the animals don't know you are there. I had a small buck yesterday just about stick his head in my blind.
