Default Coyotes and wind.

Just wondering what you guys think about hunting coyotes in heavy winds? Do you have much luck in the wind? How windy is too windy?
Just interested to see what people think. I have always stayed home when its blowing out but if other people are having any luck i will definately give it a go.

High winds seem to reduce success. However if you can find a sheltered area, or if the wind dies down at the end of daylight, it can still work.

One time elk hunting we got up to 5 yards on a yote in the wide open. The wind was heavy and it was last light. I probably could have killed it with my knife.
I've never acctauly hunted coyotes before though.

Set up so you can see down wind a long way and close to the cover. Be ready for long shots.

In the high winds, I try to get in close to a swamp or something where the likelihood of there being a coyote within a couple hundred yards is high in the first place.

I find that wailing away on the open prairie is far less effective in heavy winds but sometimes I get surprised. Got a double last year in the middle of a blizzard with 200 yard visibility and strong swirling winds. I figured I may as well not walk any further in those conditions so I sat down for a snack and turned the caller on. Couple minutes later two coyotes appeared out of the haze and trotted in perfectly. That was on a day I could have and probably should have stayed in bed. You never know...

Did alright today in the wind, got 5 coyotes today all but one we called in with Foxpro. Only one got away for next time. Like previously said above, find some shelter along edges of fields.
