I lived in New Zealand for 6 months and spent about 4 months fishing everyday (we lived out of a van and drove from fishing spot to fishing spot ) and I have to say it is pretty incredible fishing. Never know what you'll get off the coast depending on which side of the ocean you're on. One time I managed to catch a small shark off some rocks and let me say I didn't bother to try and retreive my hook back The fly fishing is pretty amazing down in the south island and that's where I picked up a hand made awesome flyrod that to this day I adore.

I fished in Australia for 6 months from the east coast up to the north and over to the west and it's pretty amazing fishing too but not as much freshwater fishing as NZ. A lot of the "fishing" I did wasn't with a rod either as I learned how to use a cast net for prawns and a crab trap for mud/blue crabs. Oh do I miss eating Barrimundi, mud crabs and fresh prawns!

The other place which I go every couple of years is fishing in Finland, they have about 180000 lakes so you're never more than maybe 10 km from being able to fish multiple bodies of water. A bit of a stark contrast to Calgary where we are quite limited and have to drive pretty far for lake fishing.

x2. ANything on a flyrod does it for me. I want to achieve my version of a flyrod grandslam. Sailfish, marlin, tarpon, rooster fish, peacock bass, Shark, Muskie, and of course my personal favorite sturgeon. This would take me to costa rica, florida perhaps, the amazon, and my own backyard. Looks to me to be the perfect lifetime goal. And on a flyrod...WHat a rush!!!

How about Barramundi on the fly rod in the outback of Austrailia with Rob Bredl as a guide. I heard that these ancient fish fight like banshees. Now that is what I would call fun....especially to go now when it is -30 here.

Great pics there Rigg Dogg.

Well I'd have to say that I'm also very lucky as my wife likes going down south for holidays. When we go I always go fishing. So I've had some great days of fishing. Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Mazatlan, Cuba, Florida, and a host of other places down south. Gone for bones on the fly many times and out deep sea fishing for marlin, sail fish, dorado, yellowfin tuna, tarpon. Also tried tarpon on the fly in Cuba. Even caught a baracuda while fishing for bonefish in Cozumel. Caught it on a bonefish fly. That was a hoot.

What I'd like to do though is finaly catch a marlin. I've been out at least a half a dozen times and only seen them. Never ever latched into one. That I don't care were it happens. As long as it happens.

I'd also get to fish off the west coast a fair amount for both halibut and salmon. I've gone up to the Charlottes, but I'd love to go catch some barn doors up in Alaska. I've got an aunt who keeps bugging my wife and I to go with her up to Alaska. My wife gave her a travel book on Alaska for Christmas. So I think that trip will happen sooner than later.

Another trip I'd like to make would be to the NWT. That would be an interesting place to fish.

New Zeland is also high on the list.

So many places. So little time.

Rob

I'd head to the Galapagos Island chain for some sails and marlin. An amazing fishery in an amazing spot in the world, might even take a day for riding some giant tortoises!!

Default Flying Fish

My buddys dad told us about this, not sure if it would take over my dream of an Alaskan fishing adventure but it looks like it could be alot of fun. I think if and when we go try this the beers better stay on shore .

I've always been facinated with spear fishing, I'm headed to panama in april and I'll make sure to try it. Heard its not great there as the shallows are pretty cleaned out by the natives but if I can even a couple small fish I'll be super pumped. They got big tarpon there and some good deep sea fishing as well that I'll be sure to sample. Realy though I love the yukon, I dont care where I'm fishing, if its not the yukon theres apart of me that will wish I was there.

Default It is Mozambique hands down

Everything I heard about the fishing is that it is exceptional.

The political situation may be different though.

Fly in multi week trip to Cree LAke in N. Sask for some monster Pike and Lakers. Might even think about throwing together a log cabin while I'm there.

If it were legal, great whites off the coast of South Africa. I went cage diving there and we saw 10 in a morning. What crazy fishing that would be!
