Edmonton trout lakes

Has anyone been to morinville res or cardiff lately? Also wondering if you can drive on. My dad wanted to catch some trout. Ive only been to chickakoo a few times and got skunked there. Any recommendations for lakes? I'm kind of stumped where to go.
