We've got two refurbished laptops (chromebooks) from Newegg $150.00 each. Mine is 7 years old and no problem. Check out Newegg for price comparisons.
I very much appreciate the intel. Thank you!!

Our newegg products are shipped from Edmonton. Not sure if they are a Canadian company but definitely better than Amazon. Bezos does not need the money.

There are a few local contacts that sell lease return laptops, less than3 yrs old and always top end machines (leased to businesses only). I bought a very high end HP laptop lease return for $200 and a 6 month warranty. Stock varies a lot so getting the right machine might take some time.
There was another fella that bought and sold used laptops from defunct oil companies (lots of machines available in recent years). My current Dell laptop had MS office on it and cost something like $100, the machine runs perfectly.
I tend to avoid refurbs as they are machines that were broken and supposedly fixed. Unless you know what was wrong and what was fixed there is plenty of risk. I have heard some horror stories about Best Buy refurbs
