Except Montana DID NOT open up a grizzly bear season. Wyoming has plans as does Idaho, but here in MT we do not at this time.

Not a mistake ..our govt is a mistake ..i hear this morning on the news that animal rights groups in the province are upset again because of the supposedly high number of bears accidentally killed.in 2016 ...how could that be possible with the low numbers we are said to have ...6 bears or whatever they said the population was a few years ago ..hmmmm

I'll believe it when I see it.

I would love to see a grizzly hunt again. I'm curious to know how many are actually necessary to have in the ecosystem, if that were even possible to quantify

Why?

It's part of their original habitat.

Grizzlies don't play nice with people....nor livestock....nor black bears.....nor even other grizzlies for that matter.Dont get me wrong,I'm all about conservation,I'd hate to see grizzlies(or most any species?) go extinct other then blackflies maybe, haha, and I think grizzlies are spectacular animals that deserve to live.....in the mountains and most remote locales on the planet.

They're extinct. Grizzlies are not. They belong on the prairies, just like wolves, antelope and badgers.

Do you live on a farm or ranch? Much like west o's opinion I don't believe the should be in the settled areas. I sure would appreciate if the gov't would let the landowners handle them like they let us deal with the black bears, cougar, wolves and other predators.

I live in a rural area, but not on a farm/ranch. However, I spend a lot of time on friends ranches, so am not unfamiliar with the realities on the ground. You are aware that bears are 80% herbivores, with most of the rest being carrion and ground squirrels. Don't forget that there is the predator compensation fund that can be accessed.

What about the other 20%. Seems to me my experience with grizzly bears is they’re opportunistic and will kill and eat whatever suits themselves. I’ve had them in the yard a time or two and was always worried about the kids walking out to catch the school bus and coming across a grizz. IMO there is no place for them in the settled areas and if one is on my land I should be able to deal with it accordingly.

Been in grizz country pretty regularly. Bear spray is a must, but have only run across on once when hunting, never when camping or hiking.

Default grizz

Guys, just wait until the 17,000 grizz propagating in BC due to loss of hunting season start wondering over the mountains into Alberta. Maybe we will get a hunting season for grizz in Alberta again.
