If he's a licenced outfitter there's no issue.

wow, he has sure dropped his prices, i know John Alstott was up in the $20,000 last year and Grosso hunts just north of him, he also hasn't had a hunter for 2 years now from what iv heard.

I looked up the Gene Grosso.....
And Its called Grosso Outfitting..... not "Alstott"
either way, if a outfitter does not have hunters booked for his tags, he got to make money some how, so you buy your own tag and he helps...
seems on the low end of the scale
If int in it, i would ask a lot of questions about how many guides he's running?
how many days they have scouted this year?
how many 4/5 rams have they seen? and do you have pics to prove it?
Might be cheeper to have a guy pack you in and come back for you

$30 000 would be for someone who is out of the area and can not buy a gen tag

Im well aware of the two " different " outfitters, just stating the competitions pricing.

For resident hunters, he doesn't have to use one of his outfitter allocations, you can just buy your general sheep tag. So the lower price just covers the cost of guide and accommodation. The non-resident rate is based on the investment the outfitter had to do to buy the allocations, and a reasonable business return.
If he didn't sell all of his non-resident hunts, he might as well try to recoup some of his costs of setting up camp by taking a few residents out.

I suppose so, if he had a good track record it maybe worth it for someone wanting an entry level hunt. Im curious of how many guys here on AO would use a guide service to accomplish their sheep hunting goals

What's wrong with it. Gene is a licensed outfitter and can guide res. hunters for whatever price he wants.

Sounds like a good deal for guys pressed for time or for guys that would like to experience a horseback hunt who don't have horses.
$500/day is peanuts for a hunt like this imo

I dunno.....it isn't out of line with RyRY's desert hunt in Nevada.
They're not charging for a tag as the resident already has it in his pocket when he shows up.....just a day rate for the horses, guide and a camp that's already set up.
Sounds like a good way to bring in some extra income for the outfitter.
Win win imo

The number one cost to a sheep outfitter is the allocation. Initially there was some stiff competition for them and they were bid up. Guiding a resident he does not incur this cost and can charge for his horses, knowledge, maybe even a guide. Sounds like a great deal to me for the right hunter.
Hard-core resident sheep hunters are not looking for this hunt as they know what they are doing, have favorite spots, etc.

They`re breaking the law
This guy is breaking the law. They are class T outfitters. The regulation clearly states that you must be a Class S outfitter to guide for sheep in Alberta

Hard to believe the first 2 rams in the first pic are legal. There have been more legal than this 2 rams get taken away before. Not sure on how legal it is. I imagine it is and is quite a good deal I would say. It is going to cost you at least $1500-$2500 just to get someone to pack you into an area on your own. If the guy guides you then it is all a bonus. Wonder what area he hunts out of

I have talked to them in years past, its legit, the big rams they got from the Cadomine area years ago. The smaller rams were taken west of Rocky. Not sure on the success rate price might be right to try them out though. Nice camping trip either way

Me and a buddy booked him 2 years ago and all i can say is what a joke. In the 10 days we were there we only went on the mountain 3 times for maby 4 hrs a trip. Wouldnt get moving till 11:00 in the morning and be back in camp before 3 pm half the time spent was walking on the trial head. The rest of the days we spent in trucks glassing from the roads and looking at mine sheep. His tents were old and run down and leaked water all over my cot. He had nothing for us to drink but coffee and tea the water came out of the river. I should have tossed 5000$ in the fire what a joke would not recomend him.

easy gents gene is my uncle and he hunts no where's near any roads or mines and heads in august and comes October and has one guide per hunter that know every square inch of that country. I hear all about the hunts when they get back. the guys that don't connect didn't want to work for it. resident hunters should get a reduced rate anyways if that's the way you want to go. his camp is top notch. the country is awesome. sheep, moose, elk all around. put in the effort to go where the guides want to take you and you'll hook up.

Sorry to burst your bubble buddy, but the tent we stayed in was old old old, im only 5.7' and i had to hunch down in it, to stop the water from dripping on my head i had to put a welding blanket over the tent. And no its not one hunter per guide, we never split up at all there were 4 of us together at all times. The first day of the hunt was spent sitting at the divide parking lot glassing, the second day sitting at the lookout point at the mine in cadomin glassing slaughter. As far as not wanting to work for a sheep it wasnt us it was the outfit.

NOW ,the truth is coming out. Please do not forget that it is illegal to hire a class T outfitter to take you hunting for Bighorn in Alberta. Yes there are some LOOPHOLES which are used to keep F&W away but ask yourself this DO YOU WANT TO GO THERE??? Trail rides are cheaper , more legal , and way more fun

Maybe you should tell him about this thread so he can come weigh in on this situation as well then
Manning has some pretty serious
allegations here against someone who runs his buisness for a living
Lots of people read this and will take mannings word for100% legit as the other guy doesn't have the balls/respect to negate said accusations
That being said I would never use him for guiding purposes
Just sayin
