Default 16NOV2015 Whitetail buck success

I'm happy to share a couple pics of the deer I was able to harvest a few days ago. Definitely not the booner we all dream of but I'm pretty sure he would make pope. He was looking for a female companion to share the night with. I guess the golden estrus gel I had placed on 3 pieces of cut up old socks had him fooled. I rattled 3 times over the course of 2 hours, the last time might have got his attention. He came in sniffing the ground right to 30 yards downwind of me in my treestand; 20' up in a poplar. Just as he got to the trail that I walked in on, he got wise and stopped...slowly turned 180 and started to slowly walk back in the direction he came from. I drew back, waited for him to walk into a decent shooting lane, stopped him with the "meh!" that all the pros on tv do, steadied my 30 yard pin on his vitals and touched the release. Thwack. My gold tip xt hunter tipped with a 100grain magnum slick trick made him famous...ok not exactly famous but whatever...gotta love hunting with the bow in November! Up close and personal.
Good luck everyone! Enjoy the rest of the season. Post your pics for the rest of us to enjoy.

Cool story and pics, thanks for sharing. Congrats on the buck.

Nice! Did you make a scent drag with the socks or just hang them in a tree?

Thanks for the congrats guys. Lefty, to be honest I don't care for the scent drag thing. Although its a good tactic there are a couple reasons I don't do it. First it's just a pain in the arse. When I have tried it i found it more of a tripping hazard than anything else. Secondly I have seen videos of guys getting attacked by rut crazed bucks. I know that seems far fetched but it even says right on the doe estus packaging not to put it on your person...just the thought of being violated by a buck is enough to disuade me! I just cut old socks and t-shirts into little squares, toss them in a ziplock baggie with a bunch of doe pee and hang them on barb wire fences or on branches etc... I do have a spray bottle of doe pee that I spray sparingly on the bottom of my boots but that's as far as I go for a "scent drag".

Regards, Ben.

I have no idea who Bill Jordan is but he must be a handsome devil! Just kidding. I kept the cape to give to my taxidermist, he's always looking for them and gives me a credit on work he does for me. I prefer european mounts anyways. The next shoulder mount I do will have to be a booner or a total freak.

That's cool....I agree I either slough foot myself or lose the drag

Congrats!

It's definetly a pain in the ass and come to think of it. It's never brought a buck in for me.
