Default 6.5 X 55 info needed???

Hi guys,
I have had this rifle for years and have never shot it. It was given to me by a good friend at one time. It has 6.5-55 stamped into it with various other marking I have included in the pics. Can anyone tell me anything about this rifle as far as age, accuracy, what country it is from and possible value(if any)that it may have. I have done some searching on line but cant seem to come up with anything like this one with the integrated side loader clip.
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!!!
Doug

There is a wealth of knowledge of such rifles over on Gun Nutz, the frequent users in the Milsurp sub forum are astounding.

Correct, it is a version of the Krag. They are known to be a very accurate rifle. Depending on date of manufacture they may need reduced pressure loads.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like it was quite a rifle in its day. Looking at the ballistics charts it is actually quite accurate.

Dean2 is correct. It is a Krag and the actions are not the strongest was dumped in Military trials due to several factors. The mag being one of them was meant to decrease reload time but would not handle the rough conditions of combat.

They are fine rifles if you keep your loads on the slow side ~2400-2500 fps. I had one and sold it ... would love to have another just for the quality of the workmanship which went into them.

especially! with the HHR reticle. (no duplex pls.)
- older 6x fixed scopes with fine X or target dot.
