The concrete pad under the water is in REALLY rough shape.

We managed to get launched yesterday, but if you’ve got a big boat with a tandem axle trailer, it’s dicey. Definitely a risk of blowing a tire or bending something on the way out with all the holes, rocks, and angled concrete.

I really hope they get it fixed before the water level comes all the way up. Would just take a few minutes with a back hoe.

Default Update on McGregor Boat Launch

Does anyone know if the McGregor north boat launch is usable. I saw a pile of gravel by it mid July and wondered if it had a temporary fix.

Any help is welcome.

I was out last weekend without the boat and just camping/shore fishing for the weekend and lot's of boats out. However, I cannot comment on the ramp itself.

Nothing has been updated on the website.

Lake McGregor Boat Launch is Use at your own Risk
https://www.albertaparks.ca/parks/so...20210721#62385

It's been about a month since I've been there. Launched a tinner up by the North dam. There were a couple of trailers parked by the launch.

I hope they improve the launch but leave the campground alone. It's a nice quiet campground for people who want to dry camp.

The advisory regarding the launch is still posted on the website.

Quote:
Lake McGregor Boat Launch is Use at your own Risk

The Boat Launch pad at Lake McGregor has had pieces shift and move, which may damage to your equipment during launch.

Removal of the pad is not possible at this time due to water levels.

Reconstruction of the launch is planned for this fall.
Been fishing out of a tinner for the past few weeks. This fall has been glorious.
It's been rare to see a boat out. Can't figure out why .......

I took some pics of the launch. A couple didn't turn out because of glare.

The red line would represent the middle of the launch. In years past, there would be two sets of concrete slabs at the launch. They're not that wide so most boats would back right down the middle where the red line is.

The blue line represents approximately where the left edge of the launch should be. The slabs on the left side of the launch have been pushed aside.

The red dot and green dot are there to give some orientation to the pictures. The red dot is beside a boulder that would take out most trailer axles. It is sitting about 10 feet back from the water line.

The green dot is sitting on a 1/2 slab that has been pushed out of position.

The launch is an absolute mess. I can't imagine launching a boat here. The boulders that you see have been placed in previous years to fill the gaps where the slabs have shifted out of place.
The water level is down a couple feet from typical levels

That launch is a trailer-eater for sure. A single axle trailer or a tandem axle with a big boat is gonna take some damage if you make even a small mistake launching.

The power of wind and ice is pretty incredible.

I'd rather they just put it back the way it was, never install a dock, and keep the road in as washboard, pot holed, gravel.

It's nice and "rustic", keeps the wakeboard boats out...

Default McGregor Launch

The Lake is down a couple of feet and the boat launch is not the greatest for launching any boat with size as the launch in in need of serious repair and you may damage your trailer and or boat getting in and out. Was there on the 16th.

Contact the premiers office and launch a complaint. It’s a provincial park. Chain lakes is garbage too

Great pictures Big Sky.

I'm a new boater and this was the first lake I took my brand new boat/trailer to back in June. My buddy commented on the poor condition of the launch. I didn't have a real frame of reference but now that I see the rock there I'm starting to get it. I can also see hanging tires off the end as water levels drop being an issue when the concrete goes astray.

When is the best time to do maintenance on this? If done now, won't ice and wind through winter simply wreck it all again? Or better, first thing in the spring as the ice melts?

No "dudes/bros" you say? Sounds like a place I want to go fishing, terrible launch and all!

Default It’s a trailer destroyer for sure.

Managed to just about rip one of my signal lights off my trailer launching my boat on the last nice weekend this fall. Have launched before on this train wreck of a boat launch without issues but this time the lake was down a few feet. My wife was eager to go fishing, I was tired and bad decisions were made.

Word was the launch was going to be repaired late October.
Was out coyote hunting and swung by the launch to have a peek.
Guess they waited too long.

Big ice heaves have pushed the slabs on the right side out of position. Hopefully they get at this before open water fishing season starts.

Default 2023 Status

Good evening folks. I was wondering if there's any news on the status of the launch in 2023?

Cheers

I talked to the ab parks guys last week. They were there with a dive team and the machine operators making plan. They said they are just waiting for the water permit from the gov to begin. Should be sooner rather than later.
