This spider was found in home where there are two 18 month olds, the mother thinks it is a brown recluse spider which are dangerous to humans and is fearful for her kids

That is not a recluse. Brown Recluse have a dark, violin-shaped marking on their head and don't occur anywhere near Alberta.

Problem with "range" is that we move goods everyday from Mexico and the South Eastern US intro warehouses and homes here in Alberta. One hitches a ride ..... and here they are ...

I heard a story from a co worker, not sure if it's true, but sounds possible ... a Boa Constrictor hitched a ride with Bananas coming from south America into a produce warehouse and was trying to get out of the ethylene booth (they ship Bananas green and gas them near final markets I guess).

That would have sucked to be the guy opening the door to find a giant snake staring at you.

Arachnodisiac may know what it is.

There are only a hand full of spider species that I can confidently identify and this is not one of those.

If it was found in my house it would be a lot flatter than that.

If you don't know what it is - then it's definitely either a brown recluse or a black widow. That one's brown ....
