Default WCB doctors??

Went in for an assessment to WCB today and saw one of their doctors. Was quite surprised at what he had to say. I’ve seen a physiotherapist, and shoulder specialist, and my family doctor over the last few weeks, and they all have told me pretty much the same thing. Rest and physio for now, and possible invasive techniques in the future. The WCB doctor had completely different views. He said do not rest it at all, and that anything but physio was basically a waste of time? I asked about PRP injections or stem cell, and he said waste of time. Not sure what to make of him. He was an 80 year old doctor with a “bottle pickin eye”(one eye on the road, and the other one pointed down into the ditch”). He said anytime your shoulder is in a sling, it is the worst thing you can do to it. Seemed very old school, and didn’t believe in other procedures to help my shoulder inpingement problems. Not sure what to make of it?

Relay what wcb dr says to your dr.

They are not there to help you, just get you back to work.

Makes me think you’re right on that. Just want you to close your claim.

Stem cell injections or PRP. I'd try that before surgery.

He sounds like a Dr I had. I had tendonitis in my bicep and some calcium build up on the tendon. He said theres not much to do MAYBE physio. Well 10 weeks later 1 session per week and daily exercises my arm was good as new.

Never went back to that idiot. In and out in 5 min. Just collecting his health Canada cheque because why give a damn when you have job security from the government.

I’ve been through WCB ...way too much of it, here’s my take.

I think he’s being honest with you, those injections aren’t accepted medical procedures (peer reviewed etc.) so he’s not going to suggest them. . He’s saying to keep moving and that’s essential, you want to screw up an injury..stop moving it, stick it in a sling and watch it seize up. Sometimes there’s not much that can be done maybe in your case surgery won’t have a good outcome.. I think an 80 year old doctor sometimes is just plain realistic.

I hope you are feeling better. I will tell you my experience .
Injured my lower back getting a 960lb quad out of a mud hole 65klm from the nearest human and was laid up for four days. On pills etc...nothing worked and the doc wouldn’t give me anything to kill the pain because he was a jam tart. On the fifth day I couldn’t stand myself any longer and literally drug myself up onto my quad and hit the trail. Within hours my back was feeling much better and to the point I could walk again. I’m sure not every injury is the same but in my case getting my butt off the couch did the trick. No offence but WCB is for jam tarts bro. Just saying...jam tarts created drug testing and WCB

When I broke my collar bone last year my Surgeon said do not move your body let alone your arm. Sit on the couch and do nothing. Or else the bone will take a very long time to heal. He was correct.

My physiotherapist said the best thing to heal bones is no movement. The worst thing to heal torn muscles is lack of use.
When the bone healed it took three months of sitting on the couch not really moving and the use of a bone stim machine.
Then it took 4 months of physio to get 80%movement back. I still cant lift as much as I use to. As the weeks go by things get better. Lack of movement can be very detrimental especially if you are older.
