You must be old, unless you were one of my students...in which case, I must be old .. I was Principal of the Jr-Sr High School ‘73 - ‘77.

My dad built and owned Elkhorn Manor back in the 80s. Mine closed. Hello bankruptcy. Bad memories.
Town is in a beautiful setting, but it has spawned some hard times in many peoples' lives I'd say ala Tumbler Ridge.

I worked there the one winter, completing the road to the mine site. When I left in the spring, AGT had a telephone booth at the top of the hill and cutlines pushed to the present day townsite. It was a 13 wk. stint without a day off.
How things have changed..Congrats to those till there..

I always thought it was a vastly underrated place. Gorgeous scenery and location, outdoor potential beyond belief.

Town was boom/bust many times. Very high turnover of people. One year, we had 125 transfer ins - transfer outs from a student population at the Jr-Sr High of about 425. We used to joke that if we were going to hold a reunion for the teachers that went through GC, we would need to book the Kinsmen Field house in Edm.

Thanks Randy , it's a soggy weekend . Was camping along the Muskeg river but it got a little sketchy so we pulled out a couple of hours ago.
