Default Suffield elk hunt

So today was my start date for the final draw season for suffield elk. For whatever goddamn reason I thought the orientation started at 7am... Total bonehead move on my part. Showed up 3 minutes after the orientation started (6:45) to locked doors. I spoke with a young guy with the military and he told me to come back tomorrow. I had to share this with you guys because I feel like a complete donkey (especially after taking the day off work and a six hour round trip drive...). Oh well, better luck tomorrow!

We where about 65 hunters plus all the helpers so maybe around 150 person all together.
Seen LOTS of people driving around the walk only area..

Hunted Mon/Tues. My Partner and I are heading back to work tomorrow. Hiked onto a herd of maybe 1000 within the first hour on the first morning. We were trying to get set up on a ridge and maybe get a shot. They were migrating to quickly away and we never were able to get close enough. Went back to the same spot this morning and saw a stampede of tracks crossing the road. So we looked in the direction of their tracks. Found a herd of maybe 400-500. After a few hours of trying to loop around to cut them off, we were not able to connect. Overall a fun hunt despite no success. We put alot of miles on our boots. The NWA is nice terrain.

I got a spike yesterday in the north nwa, and found so many big sheds and dead heads it was unreal. Was a lot of fun, but we hiked hard all day to find a heard of 300. After watching them for half an hour a spike finally cleared the bedded cows so I could take a shot. Didn't see any crazy stuff and only saw two other hunters all day, until walking back to the truck at very last light

Went back today.
We saw a herd of around 200.
Lots of trucks chassing them and lots of guys shooting at them from all over the place.
We waited for everybody to leave after the herd splitted and we manage to shoot a small bull that was running with maybe 10 other elks.
At least we got one.
