Scope for 22WMR

Just picked up an older Marlin XT-22 and looking for a scope that won’t break the bank. Was thinking a used Burris FF2 or maybe the Bushnell Elite 3200. Any suggestions?

I have used Vortex Crossfire II 4x-12x with great results for the price on a 17HMR and a 223. Solid solution for the price in my opinion.

A fixed six power with fine crosshairs if it is a varmint gun or a light duplex if it is for bigger critters. FFP scopes are great for steel but if your target is small and a long ways out there, you will lose it behind the heavy crosshair as you crank up the power.

Older Leupold, Weaver, Bushnell and Redfield scopes can be had for $50-$250 bucks and are just fine for the rifle and round your shooting. But like all brands of scopes you need to research which models are junk and which are hidden gems.

All current Elites are a 30mm tube and fairly heavy. Not sure how much that matters to you, the older ones are great.

I agree that the Crossfire II seems like a pretty good choice if your buying new. I personally like to keep the scope on my small bore rifles the same as the ones I hunt with.

I have a vortex 2 - 7 x 32 on one of my rimfires, a Bushnell rimfire 3 - 9 x 40 on one and a Bushnell rimfire 4 - 12 x 40 on my 17 hmr they all work great, the thing I have found is that I never get them up past about 6 power, just not need for rimfire distances. My .223 wears a leupold 3 - 9 x 40 and it is lots of scope for anything in range of the 223, the choices are endless

How would the lower end Vortex compare to a Burris FF or older Elite series?

For sure you’re going to get to try the Vortex warranty, which would be unlikely with the other two…

The older Elites and Burris are superior to low end Vortex.

I’ve got a vintage Redfield 4-12x on my 17HMR, sure the glass gives up a bit in poor light, but the old steel tube Redfield’s are damn near indestructible.
Look for something along the same line, even a 3000 or 3200 B/L or Bushnell would be very comparable.

^I'd agree 100%. I think the 3200s were made in Japan, I had a 4-12 that was an excellent scope, should have never sold it. The FF may be just as good, but I've only owned a (new) Burris and while I like it, I've only used it a few times. The only new scope I've ever had to have warranty service on WAS a Vortex Crossfire.

Nicest Vortex I've owned was a 4-16 Viper HS and I thought it was amazing for the $ until I used a Sightron SIII. Decided I should save a little longer.

My Son & myself went with Burris 2.5 X 7,Has worked for many years without a flaw,The Bushnel and Vortex we have tried have needed the waranty they bith iffer multiple times.

I'm running Riton Optics 1 Primal 4-12X50 on 2 of my .17 HMR rifles. They are all sighted in at 100 yards and used to get critters while in the deer stand. Most of the time, pre-rut, I'll take out 1-2-3 raccoons that show up to steal corn. The 50mm obj works great for letting in enough light to make the shot easy. The illuminated center dot is a huge help when the sun sets. I'm sure Riton, like everyone else, Riton will have a Black Friday Special. I run a 3rd 1 Primal 4-16X44 scope on my .17 HMR AR. It has a MOA reticle and is dialed in for bullet drops. It's one of my favorites for when you want to reach out past your zero.

I have a vortex crossfire 6-24x50 on my savage 22mag. Its a little overkill but it works awesome and looks pretty sweet

What would be a good one inch tube rimfire scope if ruggedness and holding zero was primary concern?

Leupold VX freedom 3 x 9 x 40 or something similar, it has all the magnification you will ever need on a rimfire plus on the low 3x setting you have plenty of field of view for in close shooting, and it won't break the bank, pretty much every manufacturer makes something similar that will work, the choices are endless.

I have a leupold freedom rimfire on my T1X. The turrets to adjust the scope feel like they were made in china. You can’t hear or feel any clicks. That will be my last Leupold. I’ll stick with NF, Zeiss or Swaro.

I mounted the same scope on my son's 22lr last year.
I agree that the turrets could be a bit better on them.
I can't hear the clicks on my son's scope but can feel them while making adjustments. Just have to move the turret a bit slower maybe, atleast that's how it is on my son's scope.
Other than that it has been a great plinking, hunting scope.

Big sky has 1/4" clicks the "lower" offering has 1/8" clicks (SII I believe). I prefer that scope over the big sky just for the finer clicks at range. Get the HHR reticule if you can find it, especially on that .204 you will own someday . Just sit the little buggers @350yds. on the top elevation hash mark and you will be a happy man.
My serious varmint guns all wear Sightron, SII or Big Sky. SIII are on my serious target guns, 1/8" clicks as well.

Bushnells, B&L’s, Leupolds in vpcurrent gens all work. Lots of hype for Vortex, the lower lines are heavy, eye relief just average and quality control so so. Optically the edges are so so for clarity and the windage and elevation caps are frickin’ huuuuuuge. On a small action rimfire all big scopes look awful in my opinion. a 2-7 Leupold older issued v vari-x 2 is about perfect in my opinion. Burris fullfield 2’s are decent optically as well. Good value there comparatively.
