i dont think iv fished it....
but id tie up some leeches in a few colors, evil weavils, damsils, small clousers, and drys when they are rishing. but id stick to catonic leeching if possible.
they will thrashyur fly with 2 hard strips in a row aswell.

Maligne Lake will not necessarily yield fish when fished for the same way you would fish for rainbows in other lakes.
Stripping a full sink line tipped with a nymph/streamer pattern is the typical method for Maligne. Pretty quick trolling speed and continual strip-pause-strip-pause-strip-pause...the Maligne shuffle.
Flies-->check with Online Sports and Tackle in Jasper...the town is only 2ish km past the turn off for Maligne anyways. Double Shrimp is their go to pattern. It resembles a full-back nymph, but tied on a 6/0 long-shank hook and tied down in the middle on top of the turkey quill or pheasant tail shellback. Wooley buggers in a combination of brown/olive/red/purple/maroon/black will work. Tie them with some beads to get deeper. I like an olive/maroon chenille body with olive marabou tail and a gold bead head.
The above is by far the most popular method at the lake. Some people have become so effective trolling flies that they've experienced 60-70 fish days.....lots of fun!
Now, not to say suspending a catatonic leech under an indicator wouldn't work, just that stripping flies deep down seems to work so damn good so why change???!
As for the river, what Pikester says below...lol

For Maligne I would try some #8-#14 Little yellow stone nymphs, #12-#14 Idaho nymphs, #8-#12 Woolly buggers in black & olive, maybe a few cased caddis imitations & like fish hunter said, a couple Evil weevils couldn't hurt! Dries are easy; some #10-#16 Elk hair caddis & #10-#16 Parachute Adams. The Maligne is mostly a fast, boisterous river filled with boulders & plunge pools so you will find most fish in the nicer seams & pockets behind these boulders, trees, or pretty much anywhere that breaks up the flow.
