Not quite true covey ridge. The small tapeworm in question here,
Echinococcus multilocularis, lives as an adult in the small intestine of red fox, occasionally coyotes in central Alberta and maybe elsewhere. The larval stage, called a hydatid cyst, lives in the liver of rodents, often deer mice.
The related parasite
Echinococcus echinococcus, lives as an adult in the small intestine of wolves. The hydatid stage is found primarily in the lungs of moose, elk.
Dogs can host the adult tapeworm of both these species.
Hope this helps.
