Default Fish Finder Help

I am looking at getting a portable fish finder. Something that I don't need to mount or has an easy mounting system. It doesn't have to be the top of the line by any means as I am not a top of the line fisherman I am ust looking for something in the $100-$150 range that will last a couple of years. Any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated.

Fishing Buddy 1200. Very portable clamps on side of boat, or ice fishing hole. Runs on 3 c cell batteries. Around 120.00 at wholesale sports. I luv mine, only thing is you can't troll with it.

Look into the Humminbird Piranha Max series. Portable and use a suction cup transducer for the back of the boat. Run off of 8 AA batteries and last a long time. Very portable and works slick. Bought one in 2003, never a problem with it.

I just bought a Hummingbird 160 Portable last week. The reason I chose it was it has all the features I wanted (and more). It is all contained in a bag and has a 12v. rechargeable battery. It also has a dual beam and says it is good for 600 feet which is of no matter to me as I won't likely ever fish deeper than 50. I got a deal on mine at Russels in Calgary. They retail at shops for 165.00. I haven't used it yet but I did do a fair bit of research. I first saw it as Bass Pro Shops for the exact price Russels was asking. Walmart has a 150 port. for 150.00 but it is a single beam. Best of luck. Rick.

Thanks for the tips. I do need one that I can troll with because so far I have had my best luck with pike by trolling until I get a hit then throwing the anchor down and fishing the area for a bit. I will look into the other ones as well. I looked into the humming bird RF 30 I believe it was. The one that you hook onto your line and it transmit it to a wrist watch display, but it got horrible reviews and the transmitter only last a set amount of hours before you have to buy another one. Another silly question, but does/can fish finders show your lure so you know the approx depth your fishing?
