Here's the article from cbc on it.

I would hate to fall through the ice. Sometimes just hearing it "talk" is freaky enough. Lol

Default Yellowhead county lakes.

Went for a fishing tour today, the day started at 6am and the first stop was at Minnow lake. Only one bite while we were there (). Ice was 15-17" thick.

Got bored there and moved on to Shinning bank lake. Not a single bite there () for us. Ice was 17-19" depending which side of the boat launch we were on.

Got bored again.. (The buddy I was with and I tend to move around a lot if we don't get any bites within in a little bit), and decided to go over to Bear lake.

Caught several perch there, sadly none worth keeping. But atleast we got on the fish!! Ice was 17" thick where we were setup.

End of the day, it was a nice tour, seen some country and finally got a few fish to keep us occupied.

See what next week brings!

Told ya so:

Can't believe someone would drive onto ice that looked like that, even if they didn't know it had been open in the recent past.

We went in at Sparrowhawk and there was at least 18". Fishing was mediocre, just two lakers in 4 hours.

How do you even access that lake? I've tried twice and I can't find parking anywhere near one of those trails that leads to the lake. Did you have any luck?

Default Lac Sante

18-20+ inches of ice at the south boat launch on Lac Sante. There's a small water puddle just off the boat launch but it's easy to drive around it.

Was out on Saturday AM between Driftwood and Sparrowhawk. About 22" of solid ice anywhere I drilled. Was on the ice for 4 hours and didn't even get a nibble. Was in 90 FOW, then 40-50 FOW. Smelts on tip ups, and jigging.

Been to Spray 3 times now in the last 2 years, and yet to have a fish on the line. Wind was ridiculous every time.

Needless to say, frustrating!!

Went to Lac St. Anne yesterday. We were around the lake access at Range Road 40. Over 22 inches of solid ice. Much better quality ice, black and continuous, on the South side of the lake there than the North Gunn/Yellowstone side.

Followed the tracks on the left going towards the narrows, crossed through a weed bed, and ended up in a bay just outside of the narrows. Had good success there at about 4pm. Filled my remaining tags with 48 and 49 cm walleye. A few hammerhandles too. Ice a bit less in that location but still solid.

Default SW AB Trout Lakes?

I was out on Beaver Mines 2 weeks ago, the ice was about 8" or 9" think. Beauvais had "Danger Thin Ice" signs out. Anyone know the ice status of any of the lakes in the SW? I've heard that Payne was mostly open about 10 days ago, just wondering if anyone has driven by Lees, Beaver Mines, Beauvais, or Police (keeping in mind Police isn't open for fishing yet). We didn't drill any holes on walk on Beauvais when we were there.

I'm getting the itch for float tube season!

I think you may want you full size rod and reel, Twinn was rotting away bad a week ago so I would think it is totally open or very close. With the warm temp and all the huge winds in that part of the country I don't think you should venture out, best to go north.

yes. very clear water.

as for twin, imo just consider the season closed. if you're ballsy and get on the ice somewhere it is unlikely you will be getting off the ice, it is in full bore rot.
