No a bad place to try but I would go to the rip-rap bank on the far side (bank next to Memorial) and just upstream of the island and cast from there. There is a fairly deep run through there that holds quite a few brown, a few rainbow and whitefish.

If interested go to the upstream end of Princes Island. There is a very deep pool that was created as to protect the island from ice scour every spring. Caught a 14 pound pike out of there a few years back. First time I had caught a pike out of the Bow.

I hear small flies might work for whitefish.
Here's the regs for that area:
from Bearspaw Dam downstream to Western Headworks Diversion (W.H.D.) Weir (including the Elbow River below Glenmore Reservoir).
CLOSED Apr. 1 to May 31 and Oct. 1 to Nov. 30
June 1 to Sept. 30 and Dec. 1 to Mar. 31 – Trout limit 1 under 35 cm; All Trout over 35 cm must be released; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm; Maggots are the only bait allowed and only in the river from Aug. 16 to Sept. 30

Yeh During the open months I head out and fish at my lunch break (concrete jungle escape) Got out yesterday and caught a STRONG +/- 18" rainbow on the rip-rap run (had no idea thats what it was called) butyeh, real deep etc. Was caught on a buzz bomb with a single hook and man did it hit hard. Felt good as I havent caught a fish since November.

Here's the terrible pic I got before batteries died. Look hard. lol

If you want to go after whitefish try a royal coachman tipped with a maggot and a small slip shot about two feet up the line. Allow it to drift and bounce its way down river. If you find you are getting hung-up on bottom a lot you can add a small float (torpedo type work well) about 8 feet or so up the line.

The bow is closed above the weir as of today. So u'll have to wait untill June 1st to fish it. Many good spots below the weir that are open to fish all year.

Maggots are the only bait allowed on the bow and only from Aug 16th till Sept 30th.

hope this helps
