Default Burbot spawn

Can anyone confirm/deny that the burbot spawn has started at Sylvan yet?
Have heard 2 quite different reports.
Thanks for any help

LMAO....Just remember that you can't harvest them during this time. Most locations in PP2 are closed to harvest from Feb 1st to March 31st.

Default Burbot spawn

From what we observed this weekend it appears as though the spawn has ended or close to it.
Not a lot of burbot activity but a couple small males appeared to be milking as they found eggs. And the white appeared to me feeding right on the bottom which appeared to be feeding on eggs. Always in the same spots, very little interest in any tackle........
Just my thoughts an observations....

I just caught some burbot this weekend and found them full of eggs/Milt. Therefore I would argue that the spawn hasn't happened yet. At least not in the lake I went to.

Thanks for letting me know. Last season was my first for these guys, and I believe it was just starting around this time, into the first couple weeks of March. Perhaps I’ve missed it this year 😬

Moon phase triggers burbot spawn.....2nd full moon after winter solstice is the trigger which is this coming week so I highly doubt any active spawing is happening yet.

I believe burbot spawn at the top and stick eggs to the underside of the ice. I don't believe the burbot was feeding on eggs on the bottom from a burbot spawn anyways.

LOL! Yeah, they stick them to the ice. That makes sense. LOL!!!

Also, he said "white" meaning whitefish. That is what whites do. Pick them off the bottom.

Someone has misinformed you on that...burbot spawn on bottom in coarse gravel areas....depths vary depending on the lake.

Every lake is different. Around central Alberta late February into March.

Don`t know much about burbot spawn besides it happens every Spring and bite is better in the evening.

Winter Solstice is actually December 21.

Spring Equinox March 20 th.

Looking forward to catching a few burbot.

Have fun!

Lol ....so the second full moon after winter solstice is this weekend like I said.
Every lake isn't different....burbot spawn based on lunar cycles which is why the burbot spawn everywhere is end of February through March.

Oooops. Yep. If I'd had a few more coffees your math would have sunk in to my pointy little head. Lol.

Two full moons after Solstice would be very close to.....now!

Couple more weeks and the bite should be on!

Still a bit early unless the warm weather accelerated it, typically RR23 among other locations is hot the last 2 weeks of March.

As well, Tjig is playing with you.

Catching decent numbers, seeing some big girls with some eggs still left in them. Kept none will be waiting for post-spawn to start taking them home for the grease. Nighttime has been when I have been getting bites, didn't get a single bite during the day.

I was curious to know if people are targeting burbot now if it’s just for fun because most lakes are closed for retention.

Much appreciated.
I’m going to make the drive up either Sunday or Monday AM.
Came up this past Monday and only got one, at Norglenwold.
Spent 4 hours at RR23 100m east of the black trailer rental guy without seeing a fish at all before we moved.

Ha Ha !.....I have seen that above picture as an advertising picture to rent a shack off of range road RR223. Might even have been from last year or even a picture of another lake . When it comes to advertising its best not to expect what you see is what you will get .. Its like seeing an advertisement of an ocean front hotel picture and the beach is full of empty chairs just waiting for you .
And when you get there ,you see 1000 people and no where to sit.

I was kind of wondering the same because the pic looks pretty familiar. Anyways, I'll bet the spawn is on by now.
