Elk around suffied
Hey just wondering if anyone else was drawn for elk on the zones surrounding suffied? Me and a buddy were drawn for cow, I was debating between heading out to the north western corner out by Jenner, going on the south end by the hat or the NE corner out east by buffalo. Has anyone been seeing the elk out by Jenner as that is probably my first choice as I know some landowners around there?

Save me looking at a map is your zone right on the border of the base if so they go in and out across the river to different properties I'd try and find those ones massive herd

Tough hunt
I think you may have the toughest tag to fill, if its indeed surrounding the base. In 20 days of hunting the perimeter last season, I saw two cows with calves and that was on the West side toward Tide Lake.
A scout trip this year located no cows. I think the river bottom or head towards Brooks area. Hate to discourage you, but I think a unicorn tag would be easier to fill! But it will be fun, and you'll see some incredible bulls. Exchange numbers with bull hunters and help each other out can't hurt either.
Which month will you be hunting ?

I hunted the late season around the base for cow elk last season, it took 17 days to find a cow elk not inside the suffied perimeter fence. I did however see hundreds of bulls. If you pm me your phone number I will text you a list of the ranchers phone numbers in the area.

Ken and FCE are giving great advice. Contact the landowners, they will tell you if the elk are around.
Not zone either, zones, 4 of them, huge area.

I'm hunting the first season that's starting this next Wednesday, I'm thinking if I can locate a herd a few days before the season (heading out camping Sunday to scout) I ought to be ok. The shooting hasn't started yet so I'm hoping they don't care about the boundary yet.

I've got a tag for a cow in October hunt.
I've been out around the block multiple times on my big adventure bike.
Up until a cool day I had not seen an elk....period.
That cool morning saw elk.....bulls and cows off base.
Not many but better than nothing.
I had a few spare years of priority laying around so I thought WTH.
My expectations are not high but being a local I can get out a lot.
Most landowners I've talked to are not seeing elk off block.
Others are but you need to be booked in on his stuff....and he's pretty full now.
Quite frankly it's going to take a lot of luck to fill this tag.....

Scouting
The elk have already been hunted and that was evident on our scout. Also, scouting pushes than back in as well. I believe the cows of Suffield are some of the longest living wild ungulates in the country. I believe a cow hunt on the base resulted in some original transplant ear tagged animals. 18 or 19 yrs of being an elk will teach you a lot of lessons on how to not catch lead. Suffield is a special place, have fun with it, not many opportunities to hunt prairie elk.

I recently returned from a trip north of Tilley, in the Alderson oil batteries area. Saw a couple of 4x4 bulls. Typically see them when in that area working.

Can these management cow tags be purchased from the ranchers, or do you have to win a draw tag?

No tags in Alberta can be purchased from land owners. Had to enter a draw in June.

Subsistence
I heard from locals that subsistence hunters have been putting plenty of large racks in the soup pot.
