Low end Kids atvs pros and cons
Hey guys my daughters Birthday is coming up and the grandparents want her to have a mini quad, but dont feel the need to buy a high end quad. Any comments on the cheaper ones.I know you get what you pay for and a brand name one will hold resale value. How to the cheap ones hold up can you get parts etc

A friend bought one for her kid and it fell apart quickly. The bearings were wide open to dirt and water.
I would consider a lightly used Honda/Yamaha...etc.

That's what I did. I didn't want to pay big money for quad(s) that the kids might lose interest in quickly.
I'm pretty sure I bought from this guy:

The quads were Chinese and cheap but they ran fine. The kids stayed with it and after a year I then resold them for a moderate loss to make room for something better.
Made sense to me - you never know if kids are going to stay with something they want or not....

My BIL bought 2 for his kids. 1 lasted 2 weeks, the 2nd one slightly longer. He said never again. His kids would drive his larger quad, so he knew they wouldn,t lose interest if they had their own quad. I think he bought 2 Yamaha,s 2nd time around. My 7 year old is quad crazy, I would only buy a name brand, probably Suzuki.

My kid rode her Chinese-built quad for a half hour before the frame broke near the rear axle. I rewelded it with good support in that area and then it broke in a different spot. Welded that and then the next time we used it the charging system quit working. I gave up and bought a Honda.

I bought one 7 years ago it still works but is quite the pain in the AZZ, it has not cost me lots to fix, but every year it seems like you need to fuss with it to get it started and its hard to find parts for it. I think if I were to do it again I would look for a used name brand quad( Yamaha, Honda, etc) as they usually start and parts can be found easily for them. The old saying you get what you pay for is sometimes oh so true.

LeanMean had a Polaris Sportsman but outgrew it. It was ok little machine.
He wanted one of those BAHA Canadian tire machines, but i bought him a Honda 420 Rancher instead. Much better machine.

Suzuki 50cc 2 stroke, oil injected. Hard to find but hold there value. I have an 1988, been through 8 nephews 2 nieces and plenty of adults putting around on it. Some weeks it only shuts off at night.
