Default Best air miles- flying points system?

I have come to realize that I have wasted alot of potential flying points because I am not enrolled in any collection program. Who had the best?

Aveon is RBC, I'm not with them, bit it wouldn't hurt my feeling to deal with a proper bank instead of ATB. But is the Aveon program any good?

Air miles is probly the most popular.

Aero plan I've heard the points must be used within (2?) years.

Who uses what, and what are the pro's and cons?

Default AeroPlan

Get yourself a Amex Platinum or Gold Charge card, average spending of $1500/month (balance has to be paid off every month) is enough points to take you and someone special anywhere in Canada or the US - using it at places like Esso, Air Canada Flights, Costco, Holiday Inn etc. will only add to your points totals.

I travel about 120 days per year, in my opinion, Aeroplan is by far the best reward program and Amex makes the points add up quicker.

In addtion with Amex Gold and Platinum Cards, you get great extras' if you learn to use them - theft and breakage insurance, extended warranties, consierge service - this is great if you travel for finding new reastaurants, venues etc.

The points do not expire for 7 years, unless you go a whole year with no accumulation - then they are gone for good.

I work for Amex and I sell Amex "corporate cards" and the points mentioned above are correct by cmdalexander. Dollar for dollar - aeroplan miles are the best value and return on investment. I would suggest collecting amex membership reward points tho... More redemption flexibility and membership rewards also allow you to also transfer into hotel, car rental or airline programs like aeroplan for free.

I've got the Infinite Avion card with RBC - and unless you're pushing alot of purchases through your card you may want to consider a couple of things.

If you carry a balance, you may want to look elsewhere. You can get a basic visa from RBC @ 11.9% but the avion is 19.9% right across the board. I average $1500 a month in purchases and payments on my CC - the only points you get are from purchases.

I've had the card for a year and still only amount to about 35000 points, and that's with the 15000 they started me off with. 35000 points is $350.00.

Thanks for the link fishing mom. And thanks to everyone else for their replies. I am leaning towards an Amex program, but Aeroplan is looking promising also.

I have an Infinite Avion RBC card as well, like was said in the previous post, it is useless if you don't have enough spending on it. I use that card for my business supplies and that makes it well worth it. We mostly fly to places what are not covered with airmiles or aeroplan points.
