There is definitely a lack of NHL quality goaltending in this game tonight. Talbots extremely shakey.

Tkachuk with a dirty slewfoot on Davidson. Oilers parade of injuries continues.

Well guys, it's only the first game of the season and a lot of you are already slagging the coaches decisions. This is history in the making, so sit back and quit whining.

GO OILERS GO

DAMN!! 6-4 I was told that the Flames captain said our new arena was just another barn to be burned.
Big words, we will see.

Both teams are wide open and all over the place which makes for exciting hockey but up against the top ten they will be destroyed over three periods.

Need a line brawl...just saying

Yeah, maybe they'll win their first game in the new arena. After that? Meh, not much expected. Bargain basement team, but not prices to go with it.

So ...... you were saying

I'm well aware that Calgary deserved better than they got tonight. I'll take the win though.

They count double against the Flames

What an entertaining night! First it was the Mathews show in Ottawa and then the Oilers snuff the Flames.

I liked the Oilers toughness that I saw tonight. They didn't look like highly skilled boys getting pushed around by men.

Looks like it's the flamers that should of played a few warm up games against the Canucks first. And maybe borrowed their goalie too
At least ya get a quick re-do on Friday under the big maxi pad, maybe they can at least keep it close this time.
I could see the battle of Alberta turning back into a battle. How much fun would THAT be?

Didn't the Oil score 3 on their first 5 shots? Pretty sure we don't need to install the confidence in Elliott to that degree..... Neither netminders played great, but when one has a SA% around .700, .900 looks amazing.

Playing pretty nasty for an 18 year old. Someone needs to take him down a few pegs.

On the bright side, good to see Calgary has turned around their horrid goaltending from last year.

I can hear Ramo and Hiller laughing from here...

They didn't pull Elliott because they wanted to show him what he was in for this year.
Its not gunna be pretty I'm afraid.

Maybe, but I think they have a decent shot of making the playoffs and will pull it together. Johnny just signed two days prior, Verstegg one day prior, and with Backlund hurt, had limited practice. So about 1/3 of the top nine hadn't practiced with the team prior to the game. Was that the issue, I don't know, but basing the years outcome on their first game isn't prudent. Chicago was beat by 3 goals as well with a SA% in the 0.800s, I doubt they are terribly worried. Lets reevaluate in two weeks.

I suspect things will improve as soon as Grossmann is scratched or given limited icetime.

Of course that's probably true. It's only one game, but it's fun to gloat. Laughed listening to the Fan 960 Calgary this morning. They read tweets from fans demanding that the new coach be fired. after ONE GAME. lol
