Well that, and the Flames cap space is $8,359.00. Pretty sure he wouldn't have signed for that. Even if you get rid of the Verstegg and Grossmann deals, the Flames would have had about half of what he got in Edmonton. So unless your not signing either Brouwer or Elliott/Johnson, Grossmann, and Verstegg, there wasn't room. Sounds like he had a good game, but I'd rather have Brouwer than Russell.

They kinda have to keep him though, don't they? A buyout doesn't really make sense as his contract expires next year, he is over 26 so the buyout would be 2/3 the salary, and don't they actually get an greater increased cap space if he's on LTIR than the buyout would provide? They can't trade for him, unless a price is paid, as he's hurt and isn't playing. If they are idiots for keeping him, what would you have done?

Try to talk him into retiring and giving up all the money.

Yeah, you're totally right. Though how did Philly move Pronger's contract? Wonder if the Flames couldn't have done that.

Fun Question: Who "went with" Pronger to Arizona? New Flames star defenceman Nicklas Grossman! Man, Flames would have been better getting Pronger at 42 and crippled.

Either team should never pass up an opportunity to celebrate, considering that they don't get many opportunities.

Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted, because it won't happen again for the rest of the season.

I'm saving that for a souvenir. Unlikely to be seen again for a while. And I'm an Oiler fan. Just a realistic one.

LOL, Dave Semenko carried a newspaper clipping of the individual scoring stats for years in his wallet. It was after the first week of the season and he was ahead of Gretzky in points

Flames are doing a pretty good job of shooting up CM's PPG stat anyways

Wow, the Flames are well on their way to being the sad sack team of the year. They are making the Oilers look good which is a heck of a feat as that is no easy task.

Who is the Flames coach? His lack of fire or intensity has definitely wore off on the Flames. A truly uninspired performance by Giordano and crew.

McDavid likes playing the flames by the look of things. Was way more fun watching the Oil win than the Jays lose.

Are the Oilers that good or are the Flames that bad? Either way, well done by the Oil.

The Flames have to pull it together though:
-24 SOG in the first period, 3 in the second;
-Gave up multiple breakaways, again;
-Were called on six penalties and were 2/4 on the kill;
-Allowed a short handed goal;
-0 for 5 on the man advantage.

Five terrible stats that if they can eliminate one or two of them, they likely win the game.

Depends on your point of view I suppose. I'm quite happy with the season so far. Maybe they should have given Johnny the extra 1.5 million

Only two games but where did the flames find their coach. He looks likes he might fall asleep behind the bench.

Thanks for taking him.
Willie Dejarden will be looking for a job pretty soon if the flames want him too.
