Well, I don't like belted magnums or "modern" big bores but because the 375 H&H was in a Ruger Tropical it followed me home!
15 grains of Green Dot and a 250 cast kicks like a 6mm Rem anyway!

No browning bolts for this guy. Sounds strange from someone with the handle savagelh and collects tikkas I know but I just can't warm up to them. Every one I've been around had a shabby trigger and never shot well.
As for calibers, I don't like anything smaller than .224. To small of bullets for my pudgy fingers. Also not a .25 anything fan. Not too sure why. I know of a ruger 77 that shoots very well in 25.06 that I could get cheap but just not interested.

Had a .243 and won't again, 6mm rem now fills that ecological niche. Also, I like the .308 and can't warm to the 30-06. The 7 mm STW doesn't appeal to me either.

I don't care for any of the 25 or 27 calibers. I wouldn't say I won't own one but I just like cartridges in 26 and 30 better.

I prefer a 308 over and above
because they wound at both ends
and everyone has one, I like to have something no one else has
they aren't what they are hyped up to be
affair 30-06 makes a good 308 Norma magnum
this has always been and always will be my personal feelings
I just hate the 30-06

funny stuff ... even though I have been hating the rem 700 and the 30-06 for nearly 50 years ... now's there's a bad on ... but does it ever feel good to get it off my chest .....hahaha

My one is the '06 for sure, to plain and boring, everyone has one, and it doesn't really do anything spectacular. It's not a hammer, not known as a flat shooter etc. I bought one once for the action and the barrel came off before it was shipped, not allowed in my house, lol.
I say it's what you buy when you don't know what you want.

270 is another one, it's for the older crowd that grew up reading O'connor, sandwiched between the 6.5's and 7's and doesn't do anything better than them.

Most mainstream cartridges don't do it for me 243/308/270/'06/300mag and what's with the 30 cal anyway, everyone's trying to reinvent the wheel. I mean how big and fast can they go?

I handled a Savage once, won't ever be spending money on them either.

My only big game rifle is a Sako 85 in 300 Win mag. I bought it based on advice of a much more experienced friend. He served in the Canadian Military as a sniper. The gun certainly has a good kick to it, I can handle it though. I didn't realize that there was such a negative stigma associated with larger calibers. Perhaps it's just ones subjective opinion? At the end of the day, a small man will do anything to make themselves feel bigger.

Guess U am pretty boring, no cartridges I won't shoot. Own 375H&H for Africa one day, 30-06 for everyday, 25-06AI for distance, a 7-08 ultralight; and a 223 for predators. Never needed anything else.

Manufacturers on the other hand, will never own a Weatherby or Browning Rifle (though love there shotguns) Just something about both those companies stock designs that I cannot stand. Guess I could by one and put a decent stock on them but that would just be easting money.

Anything with a Tupperware stock (might make an exception for a quality synthetic, or Ruger "boat paddle, though).

.17 HM2, 6.5 Carcano, anything .277 (unless everything else was right and I got a smokin' deal), and probably no Remington Ultra Magnums. Muzzle blast and powder burned is ridiculous. Probably wouldn't bother with any of the .17s.
Most of the new, "improved" short magnums. No .50 BMG, either.

Couldn't see myself buying a Mossberg rifle, or shotgun other than a 500, probably. Or the old rimfires. They were decent for cheap guns.

Probably no Purdey, or Holland & Holland, or anything resembling a "best rifle". Not that I wouldn't enjoy a high end double, but I'm a little cheap, even if I had the money, and probably wouldn't take it out much for fear of marring the finish.

I have owned from .14 through to .700 calibre and pretty much everything in between. There was no calibre or cartridge that wasn't fun to shoot at the time and that wasn't a challenge to get to shoot well.

I have shot one Purdy 20 SxS, one matched set of Italian 12 Gauge Upland guns for driven bird shooting that cost $250,000, and one Holland and Holland double rifle. All were beautiful pieces of working art that I would have loved to own but I just can't convince myself to tie up that kind of money in a gun, even temporarily.

I have also owned every production rifle made in left hand or lever action and a very large number of every other make of commercial production right hand guns. Some are clearly better than others but they were all fun while I had them.

My advice, never discount one till you tried it. Guns are REALLY easy to resell, and are a great investment so why limit yourself.

Won't have any Chinese, Brazilian or Russian firearms. Oops, a 20 gauge Brazilian single shot shotgun snuck into my gun room.

Won't have any hunting rifle larger than 30-06 ( that isn't black powder fueled)

Won't have any chopped barrel so called "cowboy" firearms, and "slicked up" usually means ruined in my vocabulary

I'm kinda surprised how many don't like the 30-30, thought everyone loved that gun except me. I don't think I'll own a 30-30 ever.

My list would be

30-30
300 win mag.

I didn't like my 30-06 and still kinda don't except it keeps turning into my favourite rifle to take hunting, drops animals one shot and is such a strait shooter that ammo I have for that 7600. It's just unreal. I only bought it to have a second 30 cal along with my 308, secondly because I wanted another 7600

A lot of biased opinions here. 'Guess that's what keeps discusions interesting...only thing I know is there are some cartridges I "hated" in the past, but have since warmed up to after trying. For practicality, though, I would never buy anything "bigger" than a 300WSM.
Still a lot of Savage haters here. IMO...they don't know what they're missing. Savage doesn't just make "cheap" rifles.
I suppose passionate followers of any activity or belief will have stubborn views.
I have to agree with Dean2's advice,"never discount one till you tried it".
