LOL. With a few exceptions, this thread reads like a list of what's in my safe.
I'm more of a 'second mouse' kind of guy, so I'll never own anything chambered in a newly released cartridge. I didn't shed a tear over missing the wssm bandwagon.
Of the popular chamberings, I'll never own anything in 22-250.

If I were starting over, I'd likely run nothing but rimmed cartridges, in nothing but break actions and falling blocks.

The .308 family will do everything the .30-06 family will, in a short action, with less powder and recoil. So there.

haha. Trust me, there is no rational reason for me not liking it. I just don't like the sounds of it. I'll never say I'm 6foot 12cm either.

The one caliber that I have not had is a 30-06, don't know why, maybe everyone had one and I had to be different.
The rifle I could not own would be a pump action. In a shotgun, yes, not in a rifle.

Anything that ends in "Weatherby Mag" or "WSM".
Nothing against Weatherby rifles, just don't like the combination of cost, recoil, and barrel life (or lack of) for those makes.

Seems to be no quicker way to peak my interest than to say "Never!"
However, to date, magnums have held little appeal to me. I don't know why, it's completely irrational.

300 wsm. And the 300 win mag for the measure of getting more people's hackles up!
30-06 or 308 for the non muzzle break 30 crowd.
300 ultra if you wanna make a very large jump into magnum territory!

8mm Rem Magnum
The most awful cartridge I ever owned loud and hard kicking I traded the previous owner a 280 Rem because he was afraid of it. Took 30 grs more powder to produce 100 fps more than my 8 Gibbs I was never so happy to sell a rifle ever.

It's a .284; and when you pull the trigger, the animal falls over. Give it a try, you'll never go back. I have taken 36 big game animals with mine from antelope to moose. Cheers!

Don't think I ever want to own a WBV MK V. or any WBY cartridge. The Vanguard is OK. I have shot and killed game with just about every cartridge designation between .243 and .300. I owned a 30-06 once and it was the only cartridge designation that I parted with without using it to take game.

Although I finally tried one I never wanted one for 50+ years. When I was a kid, everyone had one except my father. He had a .280 and I killed my first game with it. I did not want a .270 either because they were becoming common. When my dad asked what I wanted, I said .284 because I had just read an article by Warren Page on Winchesters new round.

577 t-Rex too silly. 20mm Vulcan...too pricy. I buy the gun I like for the price I like, don't really care what caliber its in, except 45-70, not sure why I don't like it, just don't, shot a few didn't care much for them.

.270
Because if the short-man syndrome it creates in some owners.
Actually, it's because it seems to be trying to bridge the gap when there really isn't one. Want lighter/deer gun go to 6.5 which does everything in this area better. Want bigger go to 7mm or 30cal. which does everything better.
Is there really a need for something (a 1/3 of a mm) in between???

I love them all,not all the makers off firearms ,I have bought and traded to where I lost count over 45 years of buying and selling.I love recoil it makes me know there things happening and being able to shoot them well with it is a must.
I avoided the 300wsm since it came out and 3 years ago fell in love with,so an other I avoided was a 338 Lapua and I am slowly maken a list on how to get that gun made up,lotsa good stuff and choices, gotta do it won't be long and at 70 maybe to much gun but plan on guiding for hunting and fishing till I can't move, then it will be late to enjoy what I never tried.
Right now I am hurt bad from a car accident and not my fault and lucky to be alive,so after 18 months layed up now I look forward in getting better and try some more guns out and hitting the bush hard.

I will never own a 270win, or a 3006. I have turned down good deals on rifles, because they were chambered in one of these cartridges.

Hmm.. "never" is a long time. Guns I scratch my head at (for no real reason)
Remington 700s
Enfield sporters
Mossberg bolt guns
Stoeger anything
Chiappa lil Badger (though I had to buy/try one)
Probably others...
Caliber/guages
.410
10ga
17WSM
"Ackley Improved" anything

Now if there was a thread titled; "which caliber to you have ZERO need for..but still can't stop wanting one"..my top pick would be 45/70. Got a chance to shoot my buddy's Marlin 1895G out IN Alberta in the spring of 2016~can't stop thinking about that gun & caliber. Only enough $ in the pot for calibers/gauges I use...no spare $1,000 laying around for a gun I'll only use for putting a smile on my face a few times a year. lol Still want one though, and Santa didn't come through.

Actions
Not just a case of caliber choices, but for me it's definitely all about the action. I just cant ever see me owning a semi-auto rifle of ANY kind. Not just the mil-surp, but right down to the Bar's and Benellis. My Blaser R8 is the quickest action I will likely ever pack in the woods.
Oh yeah, and nothing over .50 caliber.! I've decided that my .470 N.E gets my attention enough, that anything bigger would likely be overkill

I actually gave the 270 win that I owed to somebody with a pal who needed a hunting rifle.
To be compliant 270win rules.

Stocks are easy to find for the Rossi ranch hand. You are right the short stock is silly. So I converted mine.
