Default my 2020 buck

Very happy with my four pointer this year. I hunted a lot of hours this season and passed up on 7 other deer before I settled on this guy. After a 4 hour sit in the tree blind my friend and I built this summer and not seeing anything moving, I decided to get out and go down to the house for a hot lunch. The wind had shifted after lunch making it impossible to get back to the stand. So I decided my best bet would be to try a thin strip of trees on the north edge of the property and rattle. I parked my butt on a bucket I carried up and proceeded to rattle. Every 15 minutes I would do a series. After an hour I was starting to think I was gonna go home empty handed once again. All of a sudden east of me heading through a draw, there he was! Head down and stiff legged he was going for the strip of trees I was rattling from. 150 yards away I let a shot go with my Ruger Hawkeye. At first I thought I missed somehow. I have taken many deer in the past, and when shot they usually hunch up a bit before they run. Not this guy. Ran like he wasn't hit at all. Took another shot while he was going away. Saw him tip over after he ran about 70 yards. Was super happy to walk up to him. At first I thought he was the same deer we have on trail camera. But a closer look on computer shows that trail cam pic is a five pointer with same frame as this fella. I hope my friend gets a crack at that one.

Real nice buck, congrats!

Deer can sure fool you sometimes on the shot. If moose were half so tough in relation to their size I'd own a much larger rifle!

I took a doe this year that never flinched at all, ran straight up a ridge without so much as a limp. Inspecting the location without much optimism turned up ample evidence of a solid lung hit, she was piled up just out of sight.

The button buck I shot the other day did the same thing at 272 yards!
At the shot, the only indication that I hit him was the other two with him came straight down the ravine towards me, and he walked into the bush.
After walking up to where the tracks came onto thee trail, there was hair and blood, and my heart shot deer was 10 yards down a steep slope off the cut line, dead as a door knob.

Its worth mentioning too... that fool doe of mine was shot inside of 40 yards with a 30-06. Amazed me that she took a 180 grain softpoint at that range without so much as a flinch!

Kinda nice your deer stayed out of the ravine

A couple years back I shot a doe at 50 yards with the .300 WM (an opportunity thing that just happened)....and she ran 50 yards out of sight. My friend thought I'd missed her, nary a flinch. Nope. Both lungs and heart gone from a 180 gr Accubond. I never understand how they do that.

OP, very nice buck, love the tall tines on him.

Default Congrats!

That's a great job on a beauty buck. I am just curious-you said that you shot twice at the deer. Upon recovery were you able to see that you hit him twice?

I did get him on second shot as well. If you look close at the pic where he is facing away you can see stuff hanging from his belly area. That shot just grazed the bottom of his belly. I was very fortunate that it didn't hit him somewhere else and cause a bunch of meat damage. Also a good thing first shot was on mark and went through both lungs.
