I’ll throw up an update for yesterday’s happenings.

Rugersingle went over to where I shot my buck on the 12th, he was pleased with 11 deer crossing in the morning, nothing with a commensurate amount of head gear graced his shooting lane.

The Pit Boss got done work early and he headed to the “lease” blind.

The Pit Boss kicked up a buck and a doe on his walk in, the buck was a buck, but that’s all he could tell, he nestled in and soon after a doe came from the south followed by a grunting buck who hung tight in the willows for a while till he crossed, it was only a spike buck. With 15 minutes left in the day another doe crossed and the Pit Boss spent the rest of the evening on high alert, but no boyfriend was courting this girl.

Rugersingle who camped out for the day.

K, so the big pack, may have its benefits.

He saw 3 does/fawns at last light that was it.

For today, the blind allocations are the same as yesterday, and here’s hoping.........

We were blessed with my daughter making it out for Saturday supper, which also means she’s out to hunt!
She’s packing an antlerless moose draw, as well as her whitetail tag.
Unfortunately she didn’t find a moose, nor a whitetail she wanted to shoot.

Rugersingle maintained his vigil, seeing “Terry’s” kid brother in the am.

The Pit Boss continued watching for a deer that caught his fancy, but only saw “dinks”

Monday Rugersingle went to go see his dad in Edmonton, the daughter and I tried a morning hunt on the grazing reserve, but the danged fog made that a near hopeless hunt.

We continue today with Rugersingle sitting in his perch.

Good luck to her on finding an adequate buck and especially with shooting a tasty moose!

Well Rugersingle didn’t find a buck that tickled his fancy, he saw antlered deer every day but “THE” deer didn’t happen by.
I even went and executed “plan B“ which involved a temporary ground blind on the new preferred travel path these deer seem to be using(no more cattle and electric fence turned off)
Rugersingle elected the elevated option, and left empty handed.

Yesterday we sat the Pit Boss up in the elevated blind(saw 5 does and 4 small bucks), and the Son in Law up in the “Plan B” blind.
The Son in-Law took a whopping 30 minutes to take a messed up fork horn(cull buck)

We took the opportunity to use the trailer receiver deer hoist and field skin the buck.
It is a very good tool, and definitely puts a new spin on things.

Later in the day one of the Son in-Law’s friends who’s been having bad luck for the season, was invited out to sit the “plan B” blind. He set up in the blind around 2:30, and around 3:00 I went and sat at a oil lease, where I can watch at distance the neighbouring property where the deer stage from.
Long about 4:00 deer started moving on the neighbours. And around 4:40 a buck showed up, worked his way across the road, and as predicted made the right turn and I sent the text to our new hunter to get ready, the deer crossed within 70 yds of his blind and his rifle spoke.
After that........

Outstanding!
I'm surprised that 30/30 didn't bounce off that deer , seeing how they are no longer any good for hunting!
Those game hoists look very interesting for sure.

I too am surprised it died with a 30-30

Even more surprised he was able to harvest any animal without a scope.

Congrats to the hunter and the outfitter!

Congrats to the hunter and the outfitter!

My thought is that the gun was only used for the picture. The minimum size cartridge for deer should be the 300 win mag with a minimum magnification of at LEAST 7.

Anyhow congrats on the awesome day and deer!

That fella looks surprised that the deer actually fell over after being hit with the thuddy thuddy....

Nice deer! Love seeing this thread in all its glory.

I was gifted the princess auto game receiver lift for Christmas. I effing love it. We used it twice (one wt and one MD) and the thing is awesome. Only downside is the wire cable isn’t the best and is showing signs of fraying already. Will probably switch to a rope in the future.

16:47 shot fired!

Not by me

Jenna got her first moose!
125 yds out of the blind, double lung shot with a 139gr. BTSP Hornady.
The cow just walked around the brush pile and dropped dead.

This is a mighty big girl, I’m 5-11 and north of 250!

Right on!

You guys get a lot longer day than us poor suckers up north. Sun-down was 4:00pm up here today. By 4:47 she’d be black up here, especially with the cloud cover this afternoon and light snow.

Not insinuating there was any issue with the time the deer was shot, just noting you guys get like 45 more minutes of light each day.

That's fantastic! That BTSP Hornady looks like it held up perfectly, good weight retention and expansion!
That danged 708 just keeps on delivering!

Right on and great job on her part, that bullets looks like it did a great job also. Like cat said it good weight retention an expansion ,I stopped using them due to all the marking stuff , but if I dig around I have some stashed away in a bin and time to go looken for them.

Nice to see a women showing the men how it's done, great pic and post of Jenna and her moose which I guess is your daughter, i would be one proud father and good shooting on her part.

ALLTHE BEST
