Default Best coyote cartridge?

Hey, just wondering what the best coyote round is. Did a little digging around and saw the .223 is the most common, but can sometimes puncture through the animal. Is there a better round for coyote?

I shot one recently with a 7mm mag. It seemed to do the job.

A friend shoots 60-70 most years and swears by the Ruger 204. Not much in the way of sewing up from what I’ve been told.

I hunt large fields in windy conditions with option of a few wolves. I chose 22-250 sending 55-60 gr pills. 204 is great for drop and wind but doesn't seem to have the same authority as the fast 22s. When ranges get past 3-400 I use the 243. The 87gr v max puts big holes though. Ask 5 guys get 6 answers. There are lots of options pick what makes most sense for your application and give it a try

Haha wouldn’t a 7mm magnum “do the job” for almost any living creature on the planet? Bugs, mosquitoes, coyotes, elk, elephants. Lol a go anywhere, do anything round

I can say with all certainty, that a 30-06 and 150gr. Hornady BTSP’s is a bit much at 80 yds.
So not this one

I don’t think you quite grasp the size of the exit wound................. bigger than a softball smaller than a cantaloupe.

It’s one less fawn killer in my eyes is all.

had a 17 Remington and 200 yards in it was deadly....small hole....just the entrance hole....sometimes had to brush the fir around to even find it.

if I was going to get into it again 22-250....hunted in sask with guys that lived to call and shoot yotes...this was their go to cartridge.

Just as a point of interest have a look at the specs for the 22 Creedmoor, I have no experience with this wildcat cartridge but it is gaining a small following here in BC and there is quite a bit of info available on the internet.

I have shot Yotes with everything from a 460 Bee to the 17 HH Rimfire and a few with a 22RF. They all did the job. For long distance, out to 900 yards, and selling the hides a 300 Win Mag with 147 BT FMJs pulled from military 7.62 ammo did a great job but you did not want to shoot the yote under 250 yards with it. Even with the FMJ, close in they left a nasty exit wound, further out, pencil size hole in and out. For close, under 350 yards, or called yotes the 204 or the 17 FB are hard to beat for fur friendly.

Taken at least half dozen with my Hornet, but really prefer the 22-250 or even my 243. Hornet very fun on beavers & muskrats, but limited on 'yotes at any distance.

22_250 shooting GOOD bullets is about the best you can get in a factory round.

I'm talking (overall)

I’ve done some calling using a .22 Hornet. In its capable range, I was really surprised at how hard it thumped them. I wouldn’t use one much in open country for obvious reasons but for tighter cover, the hornet performed admirably. I’ve yet to have an exit. I don’t know, would t be my go to but certainly can fill a role.

I have killed coyotes with rhe 22lr, the 17hmr, and my big game rifles, but my favorite is my 20 tactical.

I'd love one, but pretty pricey for the performance you get. My go to ? .243 with 87 gr. Hornadys. If Wiley thinks he can drop the anvil from 500 M. with impunity , he's wrong

Question

It’s not 300wm that’s for sure, there was a lot of fur in the air and it bang flopped.

I use a 223 with 40gr Varmageddon and its ok. I prefer my 22-250 with 64gr Bergers for a little more reach.

Although I love the 204, 223, and 22-250, I would say the best is the 6mm Rem. Drops them on the spot with only two small holes an no massive expansion or fur damage.

If I'm calling I like to have a fast 17 cal with me,something that will push a 30 gun bullet over 4000 fps.My 2 favourites are the 17 predator and the 17 ppc with the nod going to the 17 ppc.If the day dictates calling and possible medium range shooting out to 400yds,I'll have a .223 with 50 grain v-maxes.If the day is going to be long range sniping a 6 Dasher with 107 grain matchkings will be just the ticket for the task at hand.

What bullet do you recommend in a 6 mm Rem?

I’d also love to know. My 6mmAI is a fan favourite for thumping them hard but oh my, it can be(usually is) quite messy. 95gr are not to terrible but the 75 and 87gr offerings produce dramatic damage.
