My friend shot his mulie yesterday and I was with him to see what happened. The buck came out with 7 minutes left to hunt at the opposite side of the fied with his nose down. With 5 minutes left, he was on our side and got shot about 75 yards out. I didn’t think he would move in that quickly. In fact, I didn’t think he would give us a shot at all being that dar out. The smell on him was strong too, to say the least. I still have it in my nose, lol.

I was in the bush 3 times last week and deer is definitely moving all times of day according to tracks. The big bucks are out of the fields too for the most part, which around here means that they are rutting. The bush is wrecked with rubbing all over too. Judging by my outings last week and the week before, it definitely picked up last Wednesday-Thursday in terms of movement and rubs. Other than that, they started their thing about two weeks ago around here.

Yup they are pushing and very responsive too....had one show up yesterday while rattling for whites.....second one I have ever seen in 14 years in the bush...had to take a few looks hoping it was a hybrid but nope it was 100 Muley.

Getting reports down south they are acting stupid too....

That’s interesting for sure. When guiding in the west years ago we would rattle the bottoms for WT deer. Never saw a mule deer respond tho there were plenty around.

Shot a MD doe on Fri and it travelled a very long distance before it expired. When I got to the scene a MD buck was standing over the doe and would not leave when I approached, at ten feet it moved off a little and stayed just yards away when I was field dressing the doe.

I transplanted some Ponderosa pines in my yard a couple years back and they took. I though I was going to have some of the few Ponderosa's in AB in my yard but a travelling band of young MD buck destroyed them!

We were out East of Edmonton on Sunday and saw 3 or 4 groups of Mulie does that had no bucks with them. I was surprised the Mulie bucks were not more on the move as well, saw very few....

We were after elk in 314, got within 600 yards from herd of 200 or so, 3 legal bulls on the far side. As we were closing in a wt doe with 2 fawns busted our attempt of getting any closer, elk were in high gear after that. On the way back to the truck my partner spots a rack sticking out behind some willows, a very decent mule buck with 5 does. He was drawn for this season and took a shot at 350yds. Buck fell down instantly. Stinky old buck, he was saturated and ready to party. When we came back the next day to see if elk returned(they did not) we spoted those same 5 does with a brand new buck in tow, less than 24 hours since previous fella was layed to rest. They are in the rut around here.

This past Saturday the Mulie bucks were going good. Saw close to a dozen bucks following or full on chasing does with 3 larger bucks showing themselves during the day. Was a great day to be out!
