Default New 22 sounding weird when fired

Hey guys/gals,

I bought a brand new Marlin Golden 39A lever rifle a couple of months ago, and I've noticed that there are certain brands of ammo (such as Mini-Mags and Rem Cyclones) that make a loud pop with my rifle, rather than the familiar crack sound of a 22LR. At first I thought it must be a bad batch, however, when my buddy tried the same batch and they sounded fine in his CZ American bolt. I've tried cleaning the barrel and the chamber where the round rests, but it still exists.

I am familiar of every gun having a "preference" of ammunition, however, i've never heard of ammo sounding weird when fired. I've asked a bunch of people who are more experienced with firearms than I am, and none of them have ever heard of this.

I have been told not to worry about how it sounds as long as it shoots okay. My gun shoot okay (using my iron sights). But I feel, how a gun sounds tells you if its functioning properly or not. Any ideas???

Thanks for your feedback
